My info will not help any family search as I have no details of the man.
I only have a snippet of info of a Nicholson who made an unsuccessful attempt to get to NZ in 1878.

He may have had another go later on, I do not know.

The info is from a ship record and the kind of thing handed down through family folklore to ancestors.

Welcome Young 1978 and good luck with your search.
I have sent you a PM re Waite, but it occured that until you have more postings (3 I think) you cannot reply. So if you post another you should be fine.

Gnu,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your help. I have been tied up at the Mitchell! Thanks again for all your assistance.

Yes, a pity re Lamberton 1854. I am going look at the Lamberton marriage records in NLS Edinburgh to see if they will help.
The family where non-conformist and no wills found to date this far back.
That is a fantastic site you have posted. I have used the LDS for a few years and never found it! Still to learn a few things.

Thanks again and I will search through the site you gave me.

Cheers

Hi,

Had a second go at looking at the 3 Poorhouse indexes (including Glasgow) and called up another 4 volumes of poss. links.
No James Miller/Millar born around 1811 Ireland or not on record at any of the Poorhouses. Nor could I find any of his family with names and around dates provided.

Whichever poorhouse he died in it is not on record at the Mitchell. Sorry.
