The marriage to Joanna Rules is very helpful!

A miller Thomas Rules died in Withersfield in 1688, and he was a miller, so I'm assuming that Joanna was his daughter and Edward, her husband, took over the mill.

I'm a bit old school.  I go to Ipswich record office and go through the fiches.  Pre 1813 it is very rare to get the persons occupation recorded.

Where would you recommend?

Evening everyone,

I'm looking for BMD info on an EDWARD SEDGWICK.  He was married to Joanna, and they had children in 1700 & 1703.

Most importantly for me, though, he was a miller.

Any info would be fab!

Hi Hannah & Ciderdrinker (ummmm, cider!),

Wow!  Thanks, so much info!

Seems he moved around the area a bit over his life time.  Also interesting that he was a apprentice at 20 yo, seems a bit old for those days.  Seems it was a successful stint though as he was described as "miller" by 1814.

Cheers for now,
Windy

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a chap called Mestrick Bugg, he had a child baptised in Brettenham (Suffolk), with his wife down as Susannah (nee Beats) Bugg.  This was back in 1814.

I'd be interested in any info on him pre this date, and (very speculative) wonder if he any relationship with the Raynham family of the same village.

As always, many thanks in advance,
Windy

PS If anyone has a Suffolk miller they are chasing down, then send me an email and see if I can help. ;D

Hi Queenie,

Yes, it is sad, and shines a light on how medicine has progressed!  There is a Sweffling family (can't remember the name), but they lost all their children bar 1 before the reached majority.  I suspect that was a gene thing?

Also, very interesting that Flinteft/Flintoft seem to come from north.  It did not strike me as a Suffolk name!

This evening I'm trying to dig up information on a gent called Thomas Flintoft, who was dead by 1746, and I believe lived in Ipswich (may be St. Margaret's or St. Helens).

A lady called Grace Harland was administratrix of his estate.

Any help would be great!

Do either of you know where I might search for Barnaby Gilson at Lavenham.  I'd be really interested in starting to look into which mill Gilson might have been at.  There were about 4/5 mills in and around Lavenham.  It is my burden in life to research Suffolk's +500 mills.

Not enough years in me I fear.  :-X
