not sure about matthews / mathews but Rourke is the name they used in America and O'Rourke in Australia
it's the Irish ones left behind I can't find.

hello lance I have a Matthews married (female) married to a Rourke c1770's King's Co Ireland one of his sons Thomas Rourke married catherine Taylor had 9 children 8 went to America 1 to Australia Mary Rourke who married my ancestor James Deering in King's Co Ireland c1846 they migrated to Australia in 1862 on the Erin-go-Bragh to Queensland are they related to your Matthews. Would like to hear from you.
