never did find the shipping records.  Found out on Joseph Henry Smith's war file that the surname was changed to Smith soon after the arrived here in 1902/1903.

Hi All

I now have Robert William Coppell's date of death from his will.

20 October 1968.

Would it be possible for someone to look up his death notice in the NZ Herald. He was last living in New Lynn.

I have checked Waikumete Cemetery datebase and no luck.

Thank you very much for your time

Eileen

Hi Everyone,

About time. No wonder my emails to them have not been answered in the last two weeks.

Now I can get all the info on my rellies as most of them were either buried or cremated there.

Thanks so much.

Hi all,

I have just receive a copy of Joseph Henry Smith's war record from WW1. It has a form of decaration in it that says shortly after arriving in New Zealand with their family they adopted the Surname SMITH.  This is signed by Miriam Purcell nee Coleman

So Patrick Joseph Purcell and Miriam Coleman are indeed my great grandparents. I still have no idea why he changed his name to join the war.  Maybe I will never know.  The date on the for is 24 April 1917. It is also signed by a Justice of the Peace.  They arrived in New Zealand late 1902.

Regards

Eileen
