Kent Lookup Requests / Sidcup Electoral roll lookup: Kitchener
« on: Sunday 03 February 13 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
Please could someone help with a look up for me.  I have just received the death certificate for William Kitchener with an address at 38 Brookend Road Sidcup.  His death was October 1939.  I would like to know if this is still the William (Robert) Kitchener I am trying to trace. I need to know if he was registered at this address and who else was living there. His previous address until 1937 was 288 Newcross Road Deptford.  Many thanks for your help.

Hi Anna

Thanks for the reply.  I hadn't thought that his father's name might be invented although it did occur that his age may not be accurate.  I haven't looked at William Robert born 1898 so will investigate further.

I am trying to trace my husbands family.  His Granfather was William Robert Kitchener born abt 1880 who I believed died before the second world war.
His father ( William's) was also William Robert Kitchener.
William married in 1918 aged 38 and worked for the post office.
My husbands aunt was Elizabeth Kitchener ( born 1919)
I have traced his grandmother (Florence, nee Massingham, birth, marriage and death) however everytime I think I find the correct William and order the certificates the information doesn't match.
I can find Elizabeth's birth but no further information  I guess it is possible she is still alive.
The family are somehow linked to Lenham in Kent although at the time of Florence's death ( 1970) they lived in Sidcup.
Any information would be greatfully received.
Many thanks

hello again

I feel that I am going around in circles at the moment.
I know very little, only that William Robert Kitchener married in August 1918 to Florence Massingham that he was 38 at the time of the marriage, she was 29.  His occupation is listed as a postman and that his father, also called William Robert Kitchener was an iron worker.  Florence's father was called Philip Mark Massingham and was a mechanical engineer.  The marriage took place in Lewisham
Family hearsay suggests that he served in WW1 and was mentioned in despatches. I believe that he died before the outbreak of the second world war and research suggests that it could be in the second quarter of 1938 but I have yet to confirm this.  I know the family has connections with Lenham in Kent but this might be after his marriage.

Thanks for the help

Many thanks for the info .

I have just been looking at some of the same information but a doubt has crept in as on Williams marriage certificate (1918) his fathers occupation is stated as iron worker.  Could this still tie in?

Thanks Janet

Happy New Year and thank you Ev for your reply.

The information that I have is that William's father was also called William Robert and I have him on the 1881 census as living in Hemel Hempsted, Herfordshire.  He is married to Fanny and is a card maker. Any other information would be helpful.

I am new to this so hope i am doing this correctly.
I am trying to find out about my husbands grandfather.  All I know is that he served in the first world war and was mentioned in despatches.  I think his date of birth was 1879, I have looked at the medal cards at the national archives but not sure that I have found him yet.  A few years ago I found him in the London Gazette listed as a postman but can not find him now.  I believe that he served in France and was gassed, not sure what regiment he belonged to.  He married in 1918 in Lewisham aged 38.
