Thank you patrish and Kimbrey for your help.

patrish, I also suspect he is illegitimate.  Perhaps from Amanda, or Richard, or a long shot from another brother Thomas.  Both Richard and Thomas migrated to Australia in 1875 with another two brothers.

Kimbrey, the correct spelling is TILLING, though at other times I have seen it entered as Telling and Tillin, but not Tipping (so far!).

Thanks again.

Hi, I'm hoping someone has access to the birth/baptism records for Chipping Norton.

I am looking for Harry Tillling, born in Chipping Norton in about 1873.

He is in the 1881 census, living with his grandparents William & Hannah Tilling, aged 8, but I want to work out who his parents are.

Thanks.

Hi Liz,

Re the Champneys: I found them on the 1841 cenus, but do not have access to other census years.  In the 1841 census, both William and Elizabeth are listed as being 25, so born circa 1816.  I found Elizabeth on IGI though, with christening details of 27 May 1807, in Ilchester, Somerset, England.  Elizabeth and William married in the April-June quarter of 1838 in the Yeovil district, Somerset (from FreeBMD).  Her maiden name is Greenland, and she is the daughter of Richard and Ann.   In the 1841 census, they also have Elizabeth's nephew (my direct ancestor) and niece staying with them.  I don't know when William & Elizabeth died, or even if they stayed in England.

Re Margaret Avery and George Grant: On FreeREG, Margaret is listed as being christened on 12 April 1823 at St Marys Church, West Lydford, Somerset (same day as her father was buried).  FreeBMD has a Margaret Avery marrying in the July-Sept qtr of 1841 in the Shepton Mallet district, with the husband being either George Grant or Francis Radford.  I then found Margaret's family in the 1841 census, with George Grant there also (making it most likely she married George not Francis), but Margaret is not there.  Again, I do not know when Margaret or George died, if they had children, or even if they stayed in England.  Of the other people in that household from 1841, Margaret's mother died in 1842, her grandmother in 1844, and her brother in 1847, so there's nobody else left to find in the 1851 census and later, unless they had children.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Census lookups - 1841 & 1851

Hello,
I am looking for this couple in the 1851 Somerset census:
William & Elizabeth Champney/Champeny/Champery.

I know in the 1841 census they were in Butleigh.  I believe Elizabeth was born in Ilchester, with two possible birth years of c1807 and c1816, and I am not sure where in Somerset William was born.

Also, I am trying to find Margaret Avery, born in 1823 in West Lydford.  I found her mother (Susan Avery), brother (Robert Avery), grandmother (Margaret Barratt), and lodger George Grant living together in the 1841 census, and I believe she married George Grant a few months after the 1841 census.  Could someone please see if she can be found in the 1841 census (as Margaret Avery) and the 1851 census (as Margaret Grant)?

Thank you.

Oxfordshire Completed Look Up Requests / 1851 Census - FULLER
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 08:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I am trying to find an Emma Fuller in the 1851 Oxfordshire census.

I believe she was christened in July 1849 in Caversham, Oxford, to parents George Fuller and Emma Fuller (nee Butler).  I think I've found George in the 1851 Northamptonshire census though he is listed as 'unmarried' rather than a widower, and Emma junior isn't with him or with George's immediate family in the Oxford census.  Emma senior died in July 1849, so she obviously isn't with her mother either.

Its possible that Emma junior is with her mother's family, but I only know that her father's name was Henry Butler and that he worked as a butcher in 1848, presumably in the Caversham area.

George remarried later in 1851, and migrated with his 2nd wife and their 3 children to Australia in 1855 but leaving Emma junior behind in England.

I know I haven't been able to give much information to go on, so its a long shot, but still worth a try.

Thank you.
Nikki
