Staffordshire / Re: John Westbrook Walford

Thanks for the replies, they support the evidence that I have
I have a copy of the marriage certificate for William and Alice Hood
Williams father is given as John Walford, in all the relevant censuses his father is given as John Walford
I cannot find a John Westbrook Walford in any of the censuses, I don't think he would drop the Westbrook from his name
My belief is tht someone has linked John Westbrook Walford to William without any supporting evidence and others have copied this data

Thanks

Steve

Staffordshire / John Westbrook Walford

I can trace my ancestors to

William Walford
born 1841 Bickford, Staffordshire
died 1918 Staffordshire
spouse Alice Hood b1840 d1920
married 26th Dec 1864
All Saints, Lapley, Staffordshire, England

Trees on Ancestry have his father as John Westbrook Walford, but without any evidence
I suspect this has come from a single tree and not verified

Any thoughts

Thanks in anticipation

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Re: Hutchings / Gray marriage
« on: Thursday 18 June 20 20:54 BST (UK)  »
I have spoken to the person who originally posted the picture of Frank and Joan on Find a Grave. Frank is a distant relative of his

He doesn't really know much, his comments
The closest I can find so far to fit the pieces together is a Jane Gray
who married a Albert Edward C Hutchings in Jan 1974. This Albert Edward
C Hutchings died in Beverley in Nov 1999 and was born 1913 in
Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.
The 1939 ceased to be manually update in 1952, however, the NHS records
kept updating the register to 1991 so it's possible that the green
addendum is correct ... ??

My comments / thoughts

As I understand things the date against an entry in the 1939 register
is the date the event was recorded in the register, not the date of
the event

What if Jane and Albert lived together as man and wife, Jane changed
her name at the doctors (these were all paper records), the 1939
register was updated
If Jane re-married she would lose her war widows pension

Did something happen to prompt a marriage in 1974, Edward receiving a
pension or something similar

Thanks for the replies, wonder if the marriage took place abroad
Joan's first husband was in the Royal Navy Reserve
Just a thought

The 1939 entry suggests a marriage date of 24.2.1967.  Looking at the entry below - that Barnes/Thompson marriage was in 1950

My understanding is that the date given against updates to the 1939 register are the date the entry was made, not the date of the event.

Thanks for the input

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Hutchings / Gray marriage
« on: Friday 12 June 20 22:12 BST (UK)  »
Joan Gibson b 03/02/1909 marries Frank Gray b 07/06/1907, in 1931.
All registered in Beverley

Frank is killed in 1941
The 1939 register has Joan Gray, together with Franks widowed mother, living in Beverley.
There is a note changing the name Gray to Hutchings, this is dated 24/02/1967, so the marriage must have taken place before this date

I can find the death of a Joan Hutchings with the correct birth date registered 1980 in Hull

I cannot find the Gray / Hutchings marriage, even tried Gibson / Hutchings thinking she may have reverted to her maiden name.
Can anyone find

Thanks in anticipation

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Roman Catholic Marriage (Latin)
« on: Thursday 27 February 20 20:00 GMT (UK)  »
Many thanks for all those that replied
I have included here the baptism side of the entry for those who may be interested
I would imagine that Catherine would have to be baptised in the Roman Catholic faith before she could marry in a Roman Catholic church.
I wonder if it is possible to find this, help may be required

Joseph became a gardener at Alton Tower Park, 1939 they lived at Allerton Tower Lodge
Family legend has it that he knew where the cuckoo was, this will make sense to those who know the area

I wonder if someone can transcribe this

I have deciphered
1925 6th October
Catharina Bowser, daughter of Samuel and Joanna E Bowser
Present (unknown) Michael Kelly and Cissie Wilson

This is written at the side of the baptism record for Joseph Ruane, is this usual

Many Thanks in anticipation
