Thank you Peter.

That's the puzzle! There should be no PRESCOTTS in Macclesfield in 1851.

On an index from the N.Cheshire Family History Society there is a reference to a grave containing Hanna Prescott. died April 1857 born  1835. She did not die in Macclesfield as there is no record. also there is an unknown PRESCOTT died  August 1888 and again there is no record of a birth or death.

The index refers to a MI in St Paul's Brook St.
Could you please giver me the details of the PRESCOTTin the 1851 census as there could be a connection

Regards
John

Many thanks
The more I study this family, the more confused I get. They were tennant farmers and seemed to change farms within the family quite regularly.

Many thanks Peter.

I have been doing more resarch on this topic . Richard moved to Manchester and I traced him back to his marriage when he was a carter. He became a miller sometime between 1855 and 1863.
I now know his father was George a farmer. Unfortunately I have just ruled out the family you found. This George was too youn to be the father.

I have however discovered in 1850 Richard Prescott Stocker lane Farm Darnhall and John Prescott in Wettenhall Hall. It's only when you look on a map do you find that the farms are next to one another. John was still there in 1853. Is he on the census?

Many thanks for your help

Technical Help / Re: Crests
« on: Tuesday 05 October 04 15:58 BST (UK)  »
Not wishing to be pedantic or to spoil anybody's enjoyment, I feel that a caveat ought to be given with regard to the use of "crests". (A crest is technically the device shown above the helmet.)What most people are using are blasons or coats of arms.
Coats of arms are personal and belong to an individual or a family and you should not claim them to be your own. It is like stealing somebody's signature.
Lest I be accused of hypocricy I confess I sell arms on my site but do point out that they should not be used as "family arms"but decoration.

Have fun by all means in the use of arms but don't take them seriously. I do know that the true owners are sensitive about this subject.
