Scotland / Re:Alexander Barron

Hi again

MS is standard shorthand for Maiden Surname, so Maiden Surname Schrier.

It's a very unusual name for Scotland at the time and you will note they were married in England.  I think it very likely this is the right person if the middle name was Mitchell.

Hi Kirsten
There is an 1861 Census but its not indexed yet.  It's due to be on the www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk site by the end of the summer when you should be able to find Samuel and his family.

Hello Kirsten

I checked out for a Samuel Henry on the 1881 Census to see if I could find him and that would give where he was born.  His marriage record will give where he is living at the time of marriage but not where he was born.  Where was he living and what was his occupation?  The names HENRY and HENDRY come up together on the 1881 Census search unless you ask for an exact name search:

« on: Tuesday 04 May 04 15:39 BST (UK)  »
Hello Reedy

Sorry not Census information but I'm not sure if you have the following children's births, including the William you mentioned. They were all found on the International Genealogical Index (IGI) at www.familysearch.org.

1. WILLIAM BEEBY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 26 DEC 1819 Wetheral, Cumberland, England parents Robert Beeby and Eleanor McDonald

Death date given as 15 March 1830

 10. ELLEN BEEBY - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 29 JUL 1827 Saint Cuthbert, Carlisle, Cumberland, England parents Robert Beeby and Ellen

I wasn't sure if you had the mother's maiden surname and William's birth is the only one that actually given it as McDonald.
These records were taken from Bishop's Transcripts.

Their marriage was also on the index:

ROBERT BEEBY
  Male
Marriages:
  Spouse:  ELEANOR MC DONALD
Marriage:  04 MAR 1815   Saint Cuthbert, Carlisle, Cumberland, England

There is also a record of a Robert Beeby or Maxfield being born in Feb 1792 in Carlisle.  Perhaps his parents weren't married at this point.

ROBERT BEEBY OR MAXFIELD
  Male
Christening:  05 FEB 1792   Saint Mary, Carlisle, Cumberland, England
Parents:
  Father:  JOHN BEEBY
  Mother:  CATHARINE MAXFIELD

The following was the record of the birth of Eleanor/Elioner McDonald;

ELIONER MC DONALD
  Female
Christening:  02 FEB 1795   Stanwix, Cumberland, England
 Parents:
  Mother:  ELIONER MC DONALD

Hope some of this is new to you.

Regards

Patricia

Hi Elizabeth

Saw the 'missing George family' and just knew it would be you.  I was thinking about you the other day when talking to someone about the forthcoming 1871 indexed census.  I think it will have to be the first thing I look up on it!!  Hope its all going well apart from that elusive family.

Regards

Patricia

Midlothian / Re:SHERRIFFS / MCKINNON 1846
« on: Saturday 01 May 04 20:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello Jim

The IGI (International Genealogical Index) at www.familysearch.org has the following three children listed as having been born to Alexander Sherriffs and Isabella McKinnon:

1. ISABELLA SHERRIFFS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 28 AUG 1855 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

 2. ALEXANDER SHERRIFFS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 28 AUG 1855 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland

 3. EUPHEMIA SHERIFFS - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 05 SEP 1852 South Leith, Midlothian, Scotland

You will notice that the top two are twins.  They were born and registered in 1855.  This was the first year of official registration in Scotland and as such gave a good deal of information.  If you got one of these birth certificates from 1855 it would tell you what age the father was and where he was born.  The same for the mother.  It would also tell you how many children then had and whether male or female and whether living or dead.  It will also give you their marriage date and place.  This was the only year this information was given.  You could get this record at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk    This is a pay to view site where £6 will buy you 30 credits.

Good luck.

Patricia
