Only a couple of weeks of great fun arranging everyone, once I'd got enough data and you know how long that can take.
My thanks to all who contributed, knowingly and otherwise :)

Hi all, I've finally completed a chart which shows the intricate inter-family relationships surrounding Obadiah William TURNER and Ruth ROLLINGS

Every person mentioned in this thread is probably in it although I haven't checked.
the background picture is Obadiah's farm "Hilltop" near Bundarra in the 1950's

Hi allycat, suspecting you meant to say Sarah RIDGEWELL died bef 1851?
who seems to have died 7 AUG 1853 at Histon, Cambridgeshire.
William must have remarried 8 months later, 27 MAY 1854 at Madingley, Cambridge (IGI) and promptly migrated.

Yes the confusing profusion of inter-family marriages had me head-butting brick walls for a year, 'till a lady (Vera) pointed out the Glover/Beard marriage.
Kazza I think we've been in touch via rootsweb before?, your tree there has been a major source for sorting out.  Thomas Rollings1848 is my wife Karen's 2nd great granduncle.

Just now updated rootsweb tree but still working on it

One thing eventually leads to another.

James Beard who married Sarah Rollings, is a brother of Frederick Beard who married Mary Ann Glover (the Mary Ann Beard who married Thomas Rollings).
William Beard 1816 and family, including new wife Mary (nee King, I think) were Assisted Immigrants on the "Tantivy" in late 1854, real 2137, 2467

She's there at Ancestry:
Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 3270; Folio: 66; Page: 6; GSU roll: 543106

Name:     Sarah Ann Jones
Age:    13
Estimated Birth Year:    abt 1848
Relation:    Daughter
Father's Name:    Samuel
Mother's Name:    Sarah
Gender:    Female
Where born:    Milnsbridge, Yorkshire, England
Civil Parish:    Linthwaite
Ecclesiastical parish:    Milnsbridge St Luke
County/Island:    Yorkshire
Country:    England
Registration district:    Huddersfield
Sub registration district:    Lockwood
ED, institution, or vessel:    13
Household schedule number:    27
Household Members:

Name    Age

Samuel Jones    46
Sarah Jones    43
Mary Jane Jones    17
Frances Jones    10
Frederick William Jones    8
Eve Emma Jones    3
Adam Jones    3
Sarah Ann Jones    13

Lucky she's 2 years too young or I'd be tempted to look no further.
She's 1848 in both '51 & '61 whereas I think John's Sarah is 1846 in '71, '81 & '91

Lockwood is a seperate parish to Linthwaite / Milnsbridge is it not?

There's a large blank area in the chart surrounding Sarah Ann (I'm working on an unusual concept for charts) (example here) so I agree CaroleW, for once I should afford the luxury of birth cert. but I thought it would mean buying the few likely marriage certs. and then there are apparently a few marriages of John Beaumonts without a spouse listed. My miserable budget may stretch to a cert so I'm trying to narrow it down somehow.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
It was also not uncommon for a child to be (middle) named after a Godparent, although I can't say I've come across it.

I don't think my granny had any intention of publishing her diary but like this it makes good reading.

Maybe she'd have allowed a few extracts...

thanks for the read (and the prompt)
