Hi John,
Nice to hear from you.
I tried to send a personal message, but wasn't able to .
My interest in the Comrie line dates back to the grandmother of Josiah Drummond who married Emilia Crearar 1762, Fowlis Wester. For years, I searched for the parents of Josiah Drummond. He had four brothers, and I was never able to find anything on any of them.
In Ancestry, there are about 30 trees that place in the Drummond royalty line, but all this is incorrect.
I enlisted the aid of British Ancestry last year, and they concluded that these Drummonds were actually McGregors.
Donald McGregor Drummond (born 1694, Monzie) married Catherine Ferguson.
Donald's parents were Neil McGrigor and Janet Comrie.
So, I'm not sure if your tree goes that far back. It would be quite exciting to have information from that time.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

The names Herschel & Nichol.
I was intrigued to read about the naming of his children so researched this further.
Uranus was the first planet found with the aid of a telescope. It was discovered in 1781 by astronomer William Herschel. He tried unsuccessfully to name his discovery Georgium Sidus after King George III. Instead, the planet was named for Uranus, the Greek god of the sky. In France, where reference to the British king was to be avoided if possible, the planet was known as "Herschel" until the name "Uranus" was universally adopted.
John Pringle Nichol was a Scottish educator, phrenologist, astronomer and economist who did much to popularize astronomy in a manner that appealed to nineteenth century tastes.
Apparently, hence the names Herschel & Nichol!

I appreciate this new information after so many years.
James Main was my first cousin, 4x removed!
Our most ancient ancestor was John Main of Ballochney.
I have some deeds written in Old Scots that may possibly move our line back another generation or two. I'm working on that project at the moment.

Many thanks for this.
I just noted that their 3rd child was born in Drummachargan.
Do you know how far this was from Quoig?

Perthshire / Location in Monzievaird & Strowan

Patrick McDuff and Janet McVicker had 3 children from 1754 to 1761 in Monzievaird and Strowan.
I have 2 of the birth records, but cannot decipher the location where they lived.
I have attached one record (James McDuff) that contains this place name in two succeeding entries.
Can anyone tell me the name of this place?

I found three more births to this couple.
In one of the documents, the location name appears as "Tombnaserine in Brasleny".
I've added these attachments and would appreciate further comments as to where this place is located. It seems to be near Callander.

I recently discovered that my most distant ancestor, Josiah Drummond, was actually a McGregor.
His parents were Donald Drummond alias McGregor/ Katrine Ferguson who had their children in Callander. Donald Drummond's father was Neill McGregor who married Janet Comrie; Donald was born in Monzie.
Both Josiah (Emilia Crearar) and his brother Donald (Ann Drummond) lived and worked in Fowlis Wester where they had their families in the 1760s.
I have found little information in Scotlands People about the Comries and am hoping that someone might be able to provide some clarification about the Comries in Fowlis Wester and surrounding area (including Callander)
