Aberdeenshire / Colonel David Forbes, 78th Highlanders
« on: Friday 27 June 08 00:41 BST (UK) »
Well, it appears I am the illegitimate 4th great Grandson of Colonel David Forbes of the 78th Highlanders regiment, B.1778 d.1849. The young lady involved was Ann Serle (or Searle). I have found quite a bit about the Colonel and apparently much of his papers and correspondence are in the Trent University (Ontario,CA) archives. Unfortunately they are not digitized. I found his will and some other papers available on ScotlandsPeople, but thought I would see if anyone had seen them already while doing research on Forbes ancestors in Aberdeenshire, or perhaps someone in Ontario has been in the Forbes fond at Trent? I know it's a longshot, but at least I know that I can find a lot more information about my ancestors eventually now that I have a rather famous ancestor. Perhaps that line has already been traced back to before 1500? Does anyone here have experience dealing with distant relatives if one is an illegitimate descendant? Does it even matter this far along?
Can't wait to get up to Ontario!
