I too would be greatly interested.
Oral family history has my ancestor, as a child, strangled by the Papists at his mothers funeral and presumed dead. They're hatred was so much for those that fought with King William.  This child was raised in hiding , and a descendant of his Robert Mavity, came to America in 1760.

there are records that show the family name back then:
Cavan Muster Rolls of 1630 "Mawitie"
April 26, 1644  Company of Sir Patrick Wemys -Patricke Mavitty and Alexander Mavitty.
And a Patrick Mavitore in December 26, 1646 Garrison of Castle Trym under Captain Arthur Graham.

Looking forward to seeing this with great expectations!

United States of America / Los Angeles Death Notice 1920-1930
« on: Thursday 22 September 11 16:51 BST (UK)  »
Boy.  I'm stuck.

I am looking for the death notice for Cora A. Armstrong who died in L.A. between 1920-1930.  She was born 13 May 1852 in Mchenry Co. Illinois.  Her second husband was Charles Armstong and they were married in 1888.
I need her death date so I can order a death certificate which will hopefully show her mothers maiden name.  I'm pretty sure it's Elizabeth Kent from MA but I need to make sure, since I'm having no luck finding her info either.  Coras fathers name was G.W. Boutell.

Thanks!

Brian

Hey all.

Mcvitty'/McVitties/Mavity's aren't connected genetically with the Beatties.

I did a deep clad DNA test and we aren't anywhere near them.  We do however match close with other Reiver families, Glendenning, Elliot, Irvine.  These folks were mostly in the Dumfriesshire area.
At some point they went to Ireland.  There are Cavan muster rolls for 1630 showing Mawities also.

I'm working with some McVity folks and we are REAL close DNA wise, with both their McVity and my Mavity being in the same time fram but one state apart in the mid 1700's US.

Hi there.
I have many DNA matches with Glendinning/Glendenning/Clendinning etc...  Most of the folks I match with state that their oldest known ancestor was from Dumfriesshire Scotland.
My ancestors, the Mavity's, came from Cavan in 1765.
I also match Elliot/Elliotts and MacGregor.
Would you like to compare notes?

Dumfriesshire / Re: Looking for McVittys.

Wow!

Hi Carol.  Any chance you might direct me to where I can get copies of the muster rolls in Cavan you were speaking about.?  My MAVITY family has an oral tradition that say's we had an ancestor at the Boyne.  There is no officer listed in the regiments with any variation of the name that were at the Boyne, but in 1708 there is listed an Alexander MacWattie, who I'm guessing was a foot soldier in the regiment in 1690.

My earliest ancestors are Robert and Margaret Morton Mavity.  They had a son William born Nov. 4th 1747.  The only place I find Mortons and Mavity's together is in Kinawley Parish at that time frame.  I believe Kinawley is in Cavan and Fermanagh.
I have also done extensive DNA testing that tells me that my early ancestors came from Dumfriesshire Scotland with the names of Glendinning, Elliot and MacGregor.  Putting a common ancestor with them at 98% around 1590.
DNA shows that my ancestors are closer to these family names than the McVitties or Beatties, which I find strange.  But, I'm sure there were many reasons to change names or identities back then!

Thanks

EDIT: I found the records.  It is the 1630 Cavan Muster Rolls and lists Thomas Maywitie under Sir Francis Hamilton - Knight & baronet, undertaker of 3000 Acres - his Men & Arms
Barony de Tulknock
And John, James, and Nathanial Mawitie under Sir Francis Hamilton - his Men & Arms

Fermanagh / Mavity's pre 1770
« on: Tuesday 29 July 08 03:32 BST (UK)  »
Greetings all.
I am looking for information on a Robert Mavity who married Margaret Morton.  They had a son named William b. 8 Nov 1747 and they came to America in 1765 to Virginia.
I believe they were from the Kinawley or Devenish areas since that's where I see Mortons and Mavity's, along with the other variations McVittie/McVity etc.. together.

I have done a 37 marker DNA test and am REAL close to the Glendennings of Dumfriesshire Scotland.
Other names that show up are Elliot, Irvine, Vance
The test reveals that approx. 300 years ago, I had a common ancestor with these Glendennings with a 95% probability.

There is even a McVittie hit but that person is further off than the Glendennings.

thanks

Brian Mavity
