Hi
Many thanks all for the hard work! You have given me a few leads to follow. I did look at the transcriptions at Bradford Archives and found the grave book for Ambler Thorn which was a boon and found my gt grandad Frank buried Mar 1938 & his dad George Taylor who died at 2 Bateain 9th May 1924 along with their spouses, both Sarahs!
I shall try the Queenshead register for baptisms when I am next in Halifax.
I liken all this to doing a huge jigsaw puzzle - where you have to go and find the pieces first!
Cheers

Cheers Thanks for the heads up. I WILL get to the bottom of this!! His son - my gt gt grandad George, his son Frank and his son Frank all turn up at Ambler Thorn in the burials, but not Robert!! I am determined to find him. It seems so sad he died a 'labourer' in the dye works when he was resposible for many of the art pottery housed in the various museums of the area due to some 'trouble' at Hallidays, Howcans Pottery. Still his work lives on. (sadly at a prohibitive price to have a sample!)

Many thanks for the info - Unfortuately I have a James but he stayed in Darwen so he's not one of mine. Re Mount Zion, they have a FABULOUS website which now has ALL the burials and grave purchases on, which I have obviously searched to no avail! :'(
Sadly baptisms are at the archives. I managed to find Nicholas Taylor (famous art potter of Ogden & Denholme Pottery) there and went to get a photo of the grave, not realising there was one onewedsite already. They have surpassed themselves with the work they have done at Mount Zion. Wish there were more like them!! Do have a look.
Cheers

Thanks for that - I'll have a look. I have been pouring over old maps of the area as I am not very familiar with Halifax. I believe quite a few of the Chapels have been pulled down. I know the old graveyard at Ambler Thorn is now built on and chapel gone. I wonder where they put my gt gt grandad and gt gt grandma???? :)

??? I am having a little difficulty understanding what you have written as it does not make grammatical sense.
Basically I am after ideas on Methodist churches the family may have attended after 1838 when Robert's 4th child Nicholas was baptized at Illingworth St Mary. I cannot find Andrew 1839, Mary 1844, George 1845, James 1849 & David 1851. However their last child Elizabeth bn 1854 was baptized at Illingworth St Mary in 1859 ( I believe she was mentally disabled in some way)
Robert was married to Elizabeth Holden at St Mary the Virgin, Blackburn in Nov 1832 and came to Howcans after their first child Sarah was born in Blackburn April 1833. Betty (Robert's wife died between 1861 census & 1871 census. I have access to all census info and am the one who has posted the info relating to Robert and his family on Malcolm's website!

I am just trying to establish where Robert is buried which hopefully will lead me to his wife and a church to look for his children's baptisms
Does anyone have transcriptions of Methodist churches in the area? I have been in contact with Mount Zion Chapel who have been wonderful with their help, but Robert is not there.
I hope this makes things a little clearer.

Can anyone help please as I am going round in circles!! I am trying to trace The Taylor family from Robert, who moved to Howcans Pottery as a thrower in 1833 from Darwen. This is the start of the 'Halifax' branch many of whom were also noted potters. Half Robert's family were baptized at Illingworth - thanks to Ancestry! - but I am struggling to find where the rest were baptized and buried from 1839-1880. I ordered Robert's death cert but it doesn't say obviously where he was buried, but he died at Cousin Lane, Ovenden in 1880. His grandson Frank (my gt grandad) was born at Nursery Lane, Ovenden 1865. Can anyone point me in the direction of a church they may have worshiped at in this area.
I have been to Halifax Archives and found Frank's burial at Ambler Thorn Meth Chapel which makes me think non-conformist, but I can't find Robert's generation. The mf at the archives doesn't seem to go back this far or am I looking in the wrong place.
Thanks
