Oh dear, have hit a problem!  Found John and Jane and their other son Alfred on the 1851 census but no Elias.  I thought this was a bit odd as he would have been quite young and there were no other records of Elias Wheeler other than my Sarah/Stepeen & Leah one, so I checked the death records.  Unfortunately, Elias Aldridge Wheeler died in June 1845. 

There does not seem to be any other records of an Elias except for the birth of Stephen's son.  If Stephen is the son of Sarah and Samuel that would fit.  The main problem is Elias saying his father's name was John.  There is the death of a Stephen Wheeler in 1840 in Amesbury and that could be Elias father.  As he died when Elias was so young, it could be possible that he couldn't remember his father's name???

Hi,  If anyone has access to Fighaldean Parish Records I would be extremely grateful for some help.  I have a bit of a puzzle I am finding difficult to solve.

I have an Elias WHEELER born in Fighaldean in either 1837 or 1842.  He is shown on the 1851 census as living with his grandmother Sarah who is a widow and her daughter Sarah Ann and another grandchild Emily.  I am not sure if Sarah Ann is his mother or not but according to the 1861 census she is Emily's mother.  All the census records from 1851 onward say Elias was born in 1842 but I cannot find a birth record on BMD.  The 1841 census shows grandmother Sarah with her husband Samuel and 4 other Wheelers, one of whom is named Elias born in 1837.  As the 1841 census only lists male or female I don't know if all, or any, of these are Samuel and Sarah's children or grandchildren.  If it is Elias it would account for why I cannot find a record of his birth. 

On Elias marriage certificate he says his father was John!  Whether or not S & S had a son called John I am not sure.
