Europe / Bavaria Birth Cert advice
« on: Tuesday 16 September 14 22:11 BST (UK)  »
Looking for help on how to locate a birth cert for an Augustus Theodore Sach b.1841 in Bavaria according to the 1881 uk census.  The only other info I have is that his father was a Michael John Sack a government officer, who may have liaised at the Bavarian Court?
Any advice appreciated.

Thank you
Beekay

Hi Geoff

The info I have would suggest a Bernard rather than a Barnard.  Agnes's m/c says Father "Bernard"-and although its not conclusive, Bernard's appear in the next couple of generations.  Also having got the magnifying glass out i am 99% certain he's a sailor and not tailor.  This also ties in with the handwritten FT I've got which (although written in a very wobbly hand) says Agnes Tourner of Convent.Father Ship's Captain? m Henry McCourt.

The 1851 I was pondering- was really a clutching at straws.  The hope being that Turner was a mis-transcription, I suppose.  Also, my thoughts were along the lines of "the convent"bit - wondering about any connection to the priory at st bees maybe?

Hadn't picked up on the 1841 Turner from Ireland this could be a way to go, even though I've got him with"sea-faring" connections! Especially, as Henry McCourt came over from there - a possible connection.   Other than trying any records to do with shipping - but I suspect Bernard was more likely to be a plain old sailor, rather than a Captain - I'm a bit stuck:). !!

Whose your Bernard Tourner connection?  Don't suppose he had a daughter Agnes?? :)

... and I understand a sick nurse was a sort of foster parent ...

You are getting mixed up.  A "Nurse child" was a sort of foster child.  :-\

Oops!

Hi, need help - have been ,trying to locate this family member for years!.  Can't find her birth or her father.

What I do know :  Agnes married Henry McCourt
5 Feb 1866, St Begas cath chapel,St Bees,  Whitehaven
                           Age on marriage 20
                           Father Bernard "Touner" sailor dec'd

This ties in with a handwritten tree given me by an elderly relative - except this says "Agnes Tourner, and says "convent - ship's captain as her father.

On the 1851 - 2 bank, lane, Whitehaven
I've found an Agnes Johnstone 30, born Glasgow , (sick nurse)
With Agnes Turner 5, b. Saw Mills,  Whitehaven.

Which could fit in as I know there was/is a convent at StBees and I understand a sick nurse was a sort of foster parent, so my thinking is that with her father being a sailor and probably absent, she was left at the convent or with foster carer!  However I can't prove anything.

Really would appreciate any thoughts...

Fingers crossed.

Another site I've found great for any Dutch connections in Ceylon is www.dutchburghers.com.  If you're lucky you may have a desendant who's tree is recorded there.  Good luck.

Hi Nigel, we're tracing the same line.  My aunt and I Had also heard the tea-taster story, we think we've found the father, but like you cannot prove it. Maud has really become our brick-wall!  We've gone back as far as Patrick Foley, John's father.  If  you want any more info on "our theories", let me know.

Thanks for the quick replies

Pauline - the names were Josiah Barnes 1820, Sarah Barnes 1823, Stephen Barnes 1826, Isaac 1827 (my relative) and Eliza  1832.

Bee - Thanks for the 1851 and 61 info, great help.

Mike - Thanks as well, great help.

One more question - I don't know Leicester at all.  Is Higham on the Hill a district/area?
Likewise is Saint Mary a district and is Welford Rd Cemetery still accessable?  Sorry that was three questions :)
