Hi, I've been reading your McAra postings with interest.
I have in my posession a bible that has been passed down in my family. It has an inscription inside which reads "Elizabeth McAra, Braco village, May 18th 1862". I also have another book with Matilda McAra, May 29th 1851 written inside. It is a copy of Perfect Peace which seems to be a collection of religious letters.
The books have been passed down in my family but I dont know how they connect. From your postings I think that your Elizabeth McAra, child of Neil the surgeon and Mathilda is the same one as mine. The dates and ages are about right.
My family are all from Adelaide in South Australia. My GG Grandmother was May Fewster Born in 1897 in Hindmarsh, South Australia. Her parents were Sarah Eliza Beams and Edwin Fewster. Sarah's father was James Beams, but I know nothing of her mother. I wonder if her mother was Elizabeth McAra?
This information fits with an emigration of the McAra's around the 1870's and would explain why they cannot be found in UK records at a later time.

Can anyone help with further info?

These are all from our McAra family
Would love to catch up in SA in January as we will be there for our sons birthday
