Hello. I don't know if this will be of any use but if you google edwin cantle it will come up with about 40 pages of cantles dating back to 1750 in the Bristol area.  Ken Hambly who is in Australia has done all this research.  Barbra

I'm looking up the 1841 Census on Ancestry.  I gave the name (which is very common) date of birth the exact area and the County, Surrey.   When the results come up it starts with all the names Berkshire and then alphabetically onward.
Do you have to wade all through the counties until you come to Surrey or is there a shortcut?  Be grateful for any advice. ???

Thank you so much.  I didn't realise it changed into the icon on posting. :)

I will look up these faq's and see if I can get to grips with this. I tiptoed into a chat room yesterday just to see what goes on - then someone acknowledged me and I retreated in haste and confusion!.   I will persevere.

Obviously I'm very new - don't know what I'm doing. Can't figure out how to navigate around the site.   I'm interested in the Bermondsey, Rotherhithe
Southwark areas. Particularly watermen and lightermen.

How do you get the smiley's on to the e mail?

I have the original Freeman's certificate for my ancestor dated 14th August 1854  Joseph Clark of Bermondsey but I would like to know to whom he was apprenticed.   Be really grateful.

New to this, floundering a little!
