I have his brother as also being in the Lincolnshire regiment  William Henry Brown  army number 8551.  this so close to John Thomas's number it possible they joined together?  William Henry was younger and born 1888 in Barrowby.  His record survives but is very faint but I can make out he would be discharged 1916. Why so early? He was in France, gibraltar and Bermuda. He was  promoted and demoted at least once and convicted of stealing a bike in 1914. Is there any more information you can see please. many thanks

I am so very grateful for this information. It is quite clearly him. I had only the 1911 census to go on and ancestry.com but couldn't come up with that.

I would be most grateful for any links that you can send to em and I appreciate your time and effort finding what is a common name

Hi I can see from the 1911 census that my grandad was a serving private soldier in 1st Battalion Lincs Regt based in Aden.  However, I cannot find any record for him as having served in the Great war.  Can anyone help locate anything here please.

His name was John Thomas Brown, born in Culverthorpe, Lincolnshire, I believe 21/02 1884. He would have been unmarried at the time. father name was William Henry Brown.  Thank you

Well I knew I wa/s going to hit a brick wall sooner or later with this name, John Brown. He was a gret /randfather, and I have him born 1792 in Lincolnshire, but no place or true date. He was married to Elizabeth eldred 13/10/1818 and I have a death for him 23/12/1840 at welby lincs.  Only record I have found to match is the marriage.

Ca anyone help?  I have a christening record of their son John Eldred Brown and he was christened in welby in 1831

Hi Millipede   that's interesting.  I had ethel Florence nobes father as Sidney   and mother Jane.

Ethel Florence nobes is Joan Ivy Nobes's mother.  Ethel was born 03/03/1900.

So not sure where Francis came from
