Did you ever find out any more about Thurlstone - Gannister Row in particular?

My wife's ggg grand-dad, William Young,  and his family lived there in 1841 but I've not found it on any of the old maps I've found.

Update on 'Little Alex' situation - it's gone - went past today and in the way of the 'Fallowfield', 'Seymour', 'Princess' and many other pubs in Manchester, it's been demolished and replaced by a block of flats. :(

Kirkcudbrightshire / Re: Maxwell CLARK

I don't think that there is much doubt that the Maxwell Clark who was married to Mary Crosbie is the same person as the one that married Mary Cowan.

Just look at the names of two of the children listed in the 1881 census:-
Richard Crosbie Clark, son of Mary #1 and Joseph Cowan Clark son of Mary #2.

Joseph Cowan Clark moved to Edinburgh where he was a grocer, and in 1901, he and his wife Margaret (unk) had a son, yet another Maxwell Clark.

There's a likely looking John Aspray in the 1901 census living at 28 Angel St Manchester.

John                             41 Cloth warehouse porter
Jane            wife          40
Mary Jane   dtr               7
John Wm     son             4
Clara           dtr              1

All born Manchester

A couple of other families were listed at the same address. The Aspray's were living in a single room so must have been pretty impoverished. :(

Not found John/Jane marriage registration or Mary Jane birth. ???

Angel St is just off Rochdale Rd near Miller St.

Do we have any evidence that William H is the son of John and Esther?

He was born 4 years before John and Esther married at Hulme St Philip and was living with gran Mary & John Talent in 1881.
(RG11; Piece: 3926; Folio: 101; Page: 15)

John's older sisters Martha and Mary were also there and W H could well be the illegitamate son of one of those two.
