Hello,  Yes, my Browns are related to the Benoni Sweet family.  William Brown's son, Thomas, married Margaret Ann Sweet.  Thomas being my ggg-grandfather.  I do not have access to my information at this time, unfortunately.

I see that Armanella is buried in Horton, NS.  There are some William Browns there, too.  And, some of the Sweets had settled there, too.  Maybe tracing some of those Browns will lead somewhere.  The name, Armanella, does not ring a bell from my recollection of my information.  Unique names usually stand out to me.

My Browns settled at Newport Corner, Hants Co., NS.  Horton is in Kings County.  Newport was part of Kings Co originally, though.

Possibly this record of marriage might have her parents listed and where they lived.

Date and location of marriage from birth registration of son 'Charles Clifford Coffill' (Registration Year: 1868 - Book: 1816 - Page: 61 - Number: 162) - 1859 in Wolfville.

Here are a couple of links to the Horton Cemetery http://ns162212131143.a2dns.com/ns/cemetery.php?cemID=150&pg=2

Hello;

I believe we are connected as well.  My James' first born being William...

James had a son John, who had a daughter he named Esther.   It is difficult to find any concrete info on my James and Sarah because of the time frame they were born and the lost records in the fire at the archives.

Hello;

I have found on the LDS site that James Pickering/Pickram and Sarah Glassey were married in Aughrim, Woods Chapel, Londonderry and they also had at least two children born there:  William John Pickering b. 02 dec 1827 and Mary Jane Pickering b. 04 Apr 1829.

I have also found a Catherine Pickerim b. 01 Dec 1799 in Aughrim.  Her father was James Pickerum. (so many variations for this name!)  I am trying to find a link that this may be my James's (b. 1801) sister.

Cheers;

Hi;

I am not certain where they are from in Ireland.  All  local records just say born in Ireland or Irish origins (on census.)  I remember once while researching, finding some Irish records online and found a lot of Browns and Smiths in Mayo with first name repetitions of my family.I can't seem to find those same records or site again.  That was about 5 years ago.

I came to the conclusion that they must be Ulster Scots because they were Methodists and sometimes listed as Prebyterian.   In a book of the history of Newport Corner, (Hants Co., NS) is where the info of who the Brown's arrived with from Ireland comes from, which seems possible as my grandfather's middle name being Palmer...and all info i've found so far on them says they married in Ireland.

You can move it to Mayo if you like.  I know I am taking a shot in the dark, but hoping....

Hello;

Sorry, I thought Mayo was part of Ulster...I have checked thoroughly the Nova Scotia resources.  This is a brickwall ancestor.  I have a list of his children, just not sure if they were all born in Canada or not.  I have everything on his children and their families on down, but anything before William and Margaret brings me to a dead stop.

If some were born in Ireland, it would help pinpoint the approximate arrival here...

I realize that a lot of records were lost for this time period, I just thought that it might click with someone's family, that's all....

Their was another family that my Browns travelled with, it was Carson.  So, Brown, Smith, Carson and Palmer all embarked together from Ireland to North America.

My gggg-grandfather came from Ulster, Ireland.  William Brown, born abt 1778 married Margaret Smith.  They left and came to Newport Corner, Hants Co., Nova Scotia, Canada.  With such common names it has been like searching for a needle in a haystack to find anything on them before coming to Canada.

They supposedly came here via ship in the company of friends with the name of Palmer.  My grandfather's middle name was Palmer.  I have even tried searching using the theory of the tradition of naming the first born son after the father's father(or grandfather of the child) and the first born daughter after the mother's mother.

Their firstborn son's name was Hugh Brown and daughter was Sarah.  Not sure if any children were born in Ireland before embarking or not.

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks;
Susieque

I have had some success on the LDS site with finding two of my ggg-grandfather's children.  There place of birth is listed as Aughrim, Woods Chapel, Londonderry.  William John Pickerin b. 02 Dec, 1827 and Mary Jane Pickerin b. 04 Apr, 1829.

I am sure that James Pickering (or any variant spelling of the name) and Sarah (Glassey) had more children born in this area of Ireland before leaving for Canada.  My gg-grandfather, John Simpson Pickering was born in 1843, enroute.  That makes 16 years between the birth of Wm and John.

I also wonder about John's middle name, Simpson, and how it may fit into the picture.  Is Simpson a common name from this area?   Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks

Hello;

Just thought I would add that James Pickering/Pickeram had children named William, John and Francis.  The names William, John, Francis and George were common in the early family that settled here in Nova Scotia.

My gg-grandfather, John, son of James had daughters named Mary, Esther & Sarah and sons - Francis, John, and George.  I'm not sure whether to think that this is a family tradition or just common names of the times.

The date of James and Sarah's marriage I found on the Latter Day Saints site, but no further info seems to be available on parentage.  Mind you, I had to search under a myriad of spellings to find that info even with their soundex.  Each spelling would bring up different files.  Their are some very interesting spellings, I must say, lol.

Cheers;
