United States of America / Change: Castle Garden Database
« on: Thursday 16 January 20 17:38 GMT (UK)  »
As of January 2020:

It appears that Castle Garden is now being called Castle Clinton. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Clinton

Many genealogy websites do not yet give the Castle Clinton name currently used for Castle Garden, so the change may have been relatively recent.

It seems the Castle Garden ship manifests database has been subsumed by the Ellis Island database. See: https://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/expanded-passenger-records-release

This is the link to the Ellis Island Immigration Records, 1820-1957 Search page:  https://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/passenger

I discovered this when a friend to whom I had given links to Castle Garden information could no longer make the links.

Best wishes to all.

Thank you, hallmark.

I suspect the Rosetown for my Barrington ancestors is the one nearest Naas. They may have lived in or near both locations at one time. In fact, I have changed my Subject line to: William and Loveda Alcock Family, Naas and/or Rosetown

All the best with your research.

CORRECTION

I need to correct information in my 16 May 2012 post:

The first who arrived in America saved some of their earnings to help pay the ship passage of the rest of the family. *WILLIAM*, the patriarch, his daughter Elizabeth, her husband John Dillon and their children were the last to immigrate.

Hello, again, andid -

Are you familiar with the one-name study of those with the Pinkerton surname, compiled by Geoff Pinkerton: The Pinkerton Resource Page?

It has taken me a few days to locate it. This is the link:
http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~pinkerton/genealogy/index.html

Be sure to follow through on the links in the left sidebar of the main page.

The information Geoff Pinkerton has compiled may prove helpful to you and others.

I enjoyed your tales of family drama. And some people think their ancestors were boring. :)

Best wishes -
Jean

Hello, andid -

My brother used the Ancestry.com DNA test a few years ago. If you, too, used Ancestry.com DNA, then, if there is a genetic kinship with your Pinkertons and mine, I think it would come up as a match by Ancestry.com DNA. My and my brother's surname is: DeLauche.

Through my brother's Ancestry.com DNA evaluation, he and I connected with direct descendants of my father, who we had not known about. It turns out our dad was a "rascal and a rouge" having abandoned his 1st wife and their 2 young children and then changing his identity while still in Canada. Until a few years ago, my brother and I did not know of our father's original name and personal history. It is much like the stories uncovered on the TV programs "Who Do You Think You Are" and "Finding Your Roots." :)

My Pinkertons are in a family line of my mother, by the way.

If a "DeLauche" shows up as a genetic match to you through the Ancestry.com DNA info, let me know. My Ancestry.com ID is: jdelauche.

All the best to you -
Jean

Hello, andid -

It seems County Antrim and the Ballymoney area was full of Pinkertons and still is. :) I have no idea if your Ballymoney Pinkertons are kin to mine.

As far as I know, my Ballymoney Pinkertons immigrated to upstate New York in the USA, with some of them going on to Central Wisconsin. Three of my Pinkertons (2 brothers and 1 first cousin), all from County Antrim, married 3 McAllister sisters, who were all from Belfast, Co. Antrim. Robert Pinkerton (b. 1823, son of Robert, b.1770 and Jane Lockridge Pinkerton) was 1st cousin to brothers Samuel David Pinkerton (b.1832), my direct ancestor, and John Pinkerton (b.1835). Robert (b. 1823) married Rachel McAllister. Samuel David and John married younger sisters of Rachel McAllister, Jane and Sarah Anne, respectively. They were all married in Washington Co., New York, USA.

All the best to you in your research.
