Hi Rona,

Sorry for the late reply! Yes I am Catherine Helen's eldest, Heather :)
I think I have just about figured out the Lowe side now, there were just so many children in each generation, all with the same names as the previous generation that I was getting it muddled. Yes I looked at those pictures from Musselburgh, the originals are actually still on the walls at Redcoll. It transpires that in the 250years I've managed to trace we have moved a grand total of 2.5miles! From Woodside at Gladsmuir to Longniddry. If you would like any information then I'm on Genes Reunited however I think I may be moving to ancestory soon, or I can just email you it.

Kind Regards,

Heather Morrison

Oh sorry! no I totally forgot to put the surname in! It's Busch. To my knowledge they didn't have any children born in Scotland and I can't find a marriage certificate for scotland either so I'm assuming all records apart from the 1901 census are in Germany!

Europe / German ancestors help
« on: Tuesday 17 November 09 13:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I'm looking for help in tracing german ancestors. The family first appear in Scotland in the 1901 census as follows:

Fred               40                 Coal Miner
Gertrude        38
Hari                7
William           4
Sitgi               15
Maria             13
Frances          11
Gertrude        9

Staying in Hamilton, Lanark.

I believe the Fred(erick)'s wife Gertrude's maiden name was Grunewald however am unsure about the spelling. This is taken from William's marriage to Helen Rodger in Prestonpans in 1924.

I have also heard that Frederick may have died at an interment camp in 1919, possibly on the Isle of Mann however have no evidence of this and cannot find a death certificate on scotland's people website.

I would appeciate any help with tracing this family. Or any ideas as to where I can start. I don't know their location in Germany, why they came here and or anything about the interment camps.

I look forward to hearing from someone.

Thats amazing!  :)

I'd actually be interested in all the information if thats not to much trouble. I'm on Genes Reunited if you have a tree there it would probably be the least hassel way to see the connections.

I'd be really interested in the ancestors you mention firstly.

In what way are we cousins?

Heather

I live in Stirling - the family havn't really moved much!

I've just discovered the marriage certificate of David and Mary Cassels. In 1823 in Drymen Parish. From what I gather David was living at Auchentroig at the time. I'm not sure if this is a place or not, or whether it is still near gartachoil.

Any information you have would be great. :)

This is where I got the information from, I've just spent the last 2hours reading the website and making notes. Having not done history at school after the age of 12 I didn't remember anything about Scottish Royalty past what I know from 'Braveheart'! But I'm definately a desendent from Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of Mary and David. This is the VI branch Stewarts of Coille Mhor at Gartachoil. She doesn't appear on the website as it only looks at the 1841 census but she is there in the 1851 census aged 9 and her parents details are given in her marriage certificate. I wonder if you have any information that dates back from David and Mary?

Slightly unrealted to the Sands information however I've just made a very interesting discovery...

Having hit deadends with the Sands I went off up the paterson line and decided to take a look at Elizabeth Stewart daughter of David (1791) and have been very pleasently surprised to find that there is a 90% chance that I am realted to King Robert II of Scotland, son of Walter Stewart and Marjorie Bruce, daughter of Robert the Bruce.

Very hopeful I do have some Royal Blood in me, if not I'll take a look at Ann Stewart, I'm determined!  :)
