Hi again Julia,
Thanks for your response. I don't know much about my Kirwans and even less about my Breens. Having spoken to my mother, I can't be sure where the Breens were from, only that my great grandmother, Elizabeth Breen was born in 1789. Her husband, Edward Kirwan, was born in 1873 in Rathdowney, and their children were all born and raised in Mountrath. I have collected all the 1901 census forms for every family with the surnames Kirwan & Breen in the Mountrath area, if they are of any use to you, I'd be glad to send them to you. Unfortunately, they don't help me very much, as my great grandparents were in America, as we know they married there about this tiime, before coming back to Mountrath to start a family. I'd love to hear more about your Mountrath connection, as it may be relevant to me. I know that Edward Kirwan's mother was a Bollard, and I suspect they may have come from another county, perhaps Kilkenny. I'd like to show you the tree I've done out so far, and maybe we could find a link along the way somewhere!

Hello there Liz,

I'm trying to piece my Breen ancestors together and would be interested to know where your Fintan Breen was from. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Breen, born about 1879, somewhere in Co. Laois I think, but I don't know any more than that.

Thanks,

Niamh Blake

Hi Julia,

I don't have cemetery information, but my grandmother's parents were a Kirwan and a Breen, both from Co. Laois, and I'd like to get in touch with you to see if there's a connection.

Thanks,

Niamh Blake
