Hi Suzy

I know this is an old thread but I think I may have a Huggins from Douglas Road area of Cork City and was wondering if you or any member of your family had done a DNA test???

Thats good Mary G, I thought i'd mention it just in case!!!

The online records are great, they've already cleared up a lot for me and make it easier to order the research certs now!

I presume when your visiting the Cork Office you have an appointment to view the records??? The records aren't open to the public, there is as far as I'm aware about a years waiting time to get an appointment...

the new records online are invaluable to research now though!

It's quite good, have found a few already today in that time zone between 1903 and 1927!!

Marriages from about 1905 onwards are matched up with spouses's in some case's..

But I did come across quite a lot of records of just names with no year of birth too, and I've searched for a birth that I know is on familysearch but it's not coming up....

Hopefully in time it will settle down but the recent, births, deaths and marriages will help quite a lot!

Aren't they supposed to go further up than 1958 too??? Along with Dates of Births like they are in the Registers??

It really could be so helpful to have post 1958 records available!!

But you can order via fax and post to the GRO without  search fee if you have a name and date of birth/death/marriage and they now will email back the certs to you too!

If your looking for a birth, marriage or death cert after 1958 you can still order it through the GRO once you have the date!

But they were supposed to be updated before christmas to include mothers maiden name from 1904 to 1927 too but it still hasn't happened!

If you haven't gotten the marriage cert do get it!! Some certs I've come across have been registered months after the marriage took place, some of the time the marriage only took place a few months before the first child was born, so while the index might say January 1878 it might have actully taken place months before hand...
