To Martin Young.    I am new to posting.  Hope this is going in the right direction.  "Fry's from Bristol and Somerset"  I have Fry's on my tree.  I wonder if they fit in with yours anywhere?  James Albert Fry b 1872 West Buckland, married Elizabeth Hill (my ancestor).  James' father was James Fry b 1834 Culmstock, who married Mary Burge.   His father was William Fry b 1803 Culmstock who married an Ann.  His father was James Fry 1772-1843, who married Mary Tucker.  I have no idea whether any of these are 'Fry's Chocolate' but it would be interesting to find out.

Hi Margaret

Family chat has it that my Frys are also related to the Frys chocolate family but I've not found any evidence to support this......................surprise!!!

The pedigree does include JS Fry and his sons............do you have any more Frys that you know of, as this would help establish a connection to the pedigree.................this is not a family tree as such, but traces lineage of one branch of the Frys.

You've gone back further than me, but I don't know of a Sarah in my Frys.

The family tree can lead to everal hundereds of entry's in different generations, maybe along the way you have found that you are related to Alexander Graham Bell who invented the telephone, Robin Hood or even Watt Tiler.

Maybe an ancester did something heroic but was never credited for it. Anyway I thought it may make an interesting question.

Not exactly an ancestor, but ACKER BILK is on my tree.   His Aunty Freda Bilk (born 1898) married my grandfather's nephew, William Hayman (born 1901) in Publow, Somerset.      Good old 'Stranger on the Shore'.

I have on my tree the name Fawks or Faux, the ancestors of Jane Faux born 1797 in Keynsham, Somerset.  Jane married on 4 December 1819 one of my ancestors, Jonathan Fray born 1799 in Keynsham.    Would this fit in with any of your Fawkes?

Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: Pensford/Publow Look Up
« on: Saturday 06 February 10 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,     It is confusing when looking for place of birth etc.  A part of  Bristol - Bedminster - was in Somerset.   Most of the other parts were in Gloucestershire.  Bristol became a County in its own right back in history but it was still  named as being in Somerset, or Gloucestershire, or, horrors !!!, the disbanded county of Avon.

For Attention of dacorum-girl.       I think I have found the answer to the problem. William Acford born 1779 was the son of William Acford born 1749 and Sarah Veal born 1754.  William junior  married Elizabeth Trick.  I have not looked for any children for them to date.

William Acford who was the son of Robert (born 1784) and Catherine Harris married twice.   Firstly  to Charlotte Passmore, and secondly to Betsy Baghole.  This William and Betsy moved to Bristol and had 7 children.

Does this help you?

Dorothy.  -  Hope this reaches you.  I am still learning the system.

Devon / Henry HILL born approx 1818
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 15:15 GMT (UK)  »
HELP.  Henry Hill married Elizabeth Taylor 25 July 1840 in Parish Church, Dunster, Somerset.  Henry was a gamekeeper.  They had George b November 1840; Alexander b 1844 and Mary Ann b 1846, all in Dunster.  On the 1841 census Henry is listed as "not born in Somerset".   On his marriage cert. his father is named as Henry Hill, servant.  Have never been able to find Henry senior.       There is a Henry Hill, of Keeper's Lodge, Nettlecombe, Somerset, who was accidentally shot and died September 1835 who might fit the bill, but can find no proof.  Would appreciate any help/ideas.                    Dorothy

Hello again,   thanks for reply.   I am confused and trying to sort out my paperwork.  I have William married to CHARLOTTE PASSMORE.  Could that explain the grandson's middle name?  I will keep looking for an answer.

Are you aware that Robert Acford's brother, RICHARD ACFORD 1781-1866, was married to Mary Beckway.  They had children: John Beckway 1816-1904; Mary Elizabeth 1820-1885;  Catherine 1825-1911; Robert b 1828; Clare 1836-1890, and Ellen b 1840.

Richard had military service (Duke of Wellington's battles).
1807 - December.   England.  Military.
1810 - September.  Portugal.  Peninsular War, Battle of Busaco.
1812 - July.             Spain.  Peninsular War, Battle of Salamanca. (Wounded in arm)
1814-  18 October.  England.  Private Richard Ackford,  11th Regiment of Foot          (North Devonshire) 1811-1814 - discharged.  CHELSEA PENSIONER.    Dorothy
