One more thing I need to ask, sorry.

On the marraige certificate of Charles Picknell & Sophia Blackman. Both fathers are named. Now I know on later dated certificates if the father has passed on it states this. Would this be the case for a marriage in 1849?

many thanks

Steve aka Blackcountryboy.

Canada / PICKNELL family from Sussex UK to Canada. 1913-onwards

Albert Edward Picknell b 1879, marries a Martha Boxshall in 1905 Sussex. I know he left the UK on 27 March 1913 bound for Toronto. their was no entry made for his wife Martha or their daughter Edith Annie born Bexhill 1906.
Albert was killed in Belgium 6 June 1916. He had enlisted into the 28th Canadian Infantry. Why did not his wife and family travel? Also his brother Charles b1883 Bexhill enlisted 27 Sept. 1914 into Canadian Infantry. 6th Coy, 6th Batt. No record of him emigrating or returning to UK. I think he died in 1961 in the UK and never married. On his enlistment papers his father is recorded to be a R Tolhurst????

Both Albert & Charles record on their enlistment papers 7yrs Territorial service, 1st Sussex R.Engineers. Any idea where I may obtain any records of this service?

I think Martha remarries in Battle Sussex 1918 to a SC Saunders. I think Martha emigrates to Quebec Canada in 1923 with her mother.  No idea what happened to Edith A Picknell?

Any ideas please, your comments will be very appreciated.

Steve

Very BIG THANK YOU, to Mo, Groom, Roy G and Chris 1066 land. Your assistance has been fantastic, thank you again. I have been trying to work on the information you kindly brought to my attention, when work allows. I hope to have a few hours tonight. Thank you all again.

Roy G. You mention GI, and William a carpenter. That all ties in. Thank you. Would Williams birth be recorded on igi? I see you mention baptisms, and I have looked at the info from Chris 1066 land, about Picknells on the American ground, detailing baptisms but not from when I am guessing William would have been born about 1820?

Chris1066. You mentioned if I had details of 6 children to Charles and Sophia. I do thank you.

A point of interest I have found relating to one of the later Picknells, was appears to have emigrates to Canada, but was killed in Belgium in the First War. Just a note.

many thanks

Steve

Thank you all for the fantastic info. Mnay I have not been able to find. A note of interest is I have Charles Picknells marriage to Sophia Blackman. "Moisie" your post is of interest also. You say Williams wife is visiting W Sussex.

On the marriage certificate 14 Aug 1849. a witness is George Brazier, the person she is visiting. The father on the certificate is recorded to be William Picknell a builder. Again that ties in. But I can not find any William Picknells on the census returns.

All the returns I find detail Richard & Louisa as parents. think I have been following the wrong line ???

thank you all for your kind support and comments.
