London and Middlesex / Re: Marriage banns
« on: Wednesday 25 April 12 21:29 BST (UK)  »
Is there any circumstances where Banns are allowed AFTER the Marriage
I have a couple who married 2 June 1811 But it says Banns on June 16, 23 and 30 June

Lancashire / Wigan Music Hall
« on: Monday 11 July 11 11:37 BST (UK)  »
On the 1901 Census at 19 Darlington Street, Wigan are ERNEST and CARMAN GIBBINS.
They are both recorded as Music Hall Artists (Vocalists)
Can anyone shed any light on this pair or their Music Hall work as I think they may be my long lost relatives

How many Music Halls were there in the area and are there any records from them anywhere that may show them there in 1901 ?

Hi Mort
Edith Lisbourne Gibbons was brought up by her adopted family as Daisy Scaife and is on both 1891 and 1901 census as that
She married Hudson

Just remembered something
An Aunt - daughter of Edith told me that Ernest had appeared at their house (probably about 1915) asking for money as he was pennyless and they told him to go away. If this is true it spoils the story of being killed by lions. Anyway, if they were in a circus I doubt that they would live at addresses in towns, more likely in a caravan.
I was also told that he took his stage name (John William Cove) from a famous American actor.

Hi Katy
Just replied to your e-mail
Victor's sister Edith Lisbourne Gibbons was my grandma
But I am as stuck as you over the JWC Gibbons
HOWEVER I think that the middle name of Lisbourne may be a clue to further family

Kincardineshire / Re: Graveyards of Kincardinshire?
« on: Saturday 20 March 10 13:20 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Fetteresso covers a large area, so yor family could be from anywhere

There are three graveyards in Stonehaven, Dunnottar, Fetteresso and Cowie - so the chances they could be in one of them!  In general most merchants landed up in either Dunnottar or Fetteresso but like everything else in family history generalisation is usually wrong!

Good hunting

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Re: MI Request for Middleton

Hi LAH

I am pretty new to this site and have just come across your entry. I know it was posted some time ago but just wondered if you managed to come to any conclusions.
My Hudson line come from Middleton (the one near Ilkley / Leeds).

For some strange reason there appeared to be quite a migration of people around Yorkshire - probably work related. Although my direct line are all from the Ilkley area I have others married into the family from all over Yorkshire.

I was just thinking - could your little problem with Pickering/Holmes be as simple as she was married twice ?
Single name Pickering - first married name Holmes - get the drift ??

If you are still having problems with this line please feel free to contact me
