Ireland / Re: John Haughey

Hi

I mean I've looked everywhere in Scottish records for a clue as to which part of Ireland he was born/lived but have not found anything and are there any suggestions as to where I might look next in Scottish records.  There is no hint in census, I cant find any marriage or death certificates for him or his wife and have even checked through high court trial and prison records which, while fascinating, are no help in establishing where this particular individual was born.

His wife Agnes or Ann Scott is mentioned in high court trials in the 1840s and was apprently still alive but did not appear on the 1841 census with husband and son. I havent been able to find either of them in later census.

I knew research in Ireland is nigh impossible without knowing the area so this was really a last ditch effort before finally conceding defeat.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Thanks for that Don - it looks very much as if Robert may be Isabella's brother as she was born about 1798. Possibly James born 1795 that Alastair mentioned in the earlier post is another sibling? I'm not directly related to the Mochrie's (Isabella is a 3 x great g/mother down one of the female lines) and I started looking at it only recently (to let the bruises from hitting brick walls with my other lines heal!) but the occupation of Isabella's father - knight-  and the fairly unusual name caught my attention.

Thanks for taking the time to help Don, much appreciated.

Hi
I've come across this thread while googling for Isabella Mochrie and wondered if there is a connection.

Isabella was born in Bathgate about 1798 and died there in 1878. According to the death certificate her parents were Robert Mochrie and Marion Arthur but I cant find any record of their marriage. Robert's occupation on Isabella's death cert is given as "knight". Can anyone throw any light on this family?

Ireland / John Haughey

I'm trying to trace my great great grandfather "in law" John Haughey (b abt 1797)and his wife Agnes or Ann Scott. I've found him on the 1841 census in Edinburgh where it says he was born in Ireland. I've checked everything I can find (under every variation of the name that I know of) but havent had any luck.

Does anybody have any suggestions before I finally give up  ???

Scotland / 1841 1851 lookup Edinburgh please
« on: Wednesday 02 February 05 00:10 GMT (UK)  »
John Hoffie married Joan Cook 25/3/1845 in St Cuthberts parish church. He was born in Edinburgh. The address on the marriage proclamation was 3 Middletons Entry Bristo St Edinburgh.

Would some one be kind enough to tell me whether they appear on either the 1841 or 1851 census and whether anyone else is resident with them?

Much appreciated
