Fermanagh / Re: meehan family
« on: Wednesday 20 January 16 04:43 GMT (UK)  »
I have just come across this request.  Here is a John Meehan registered in Enniskillen
Meehan, John
 County:FermanaghParish:Enniskillen
 Location:T/Enniskillen/Dame St.
I have had trouble with internet connection today, but got this from Re: Meehans in Co. Fermanagh (1848-1864) Griffith's
There was also a James in Enniskillen in the same list.
If I come across any more information, I may contact you again.
You mention an Irish genealogy site.  Nobody has replied RootsIreland, but it is difficult to use.

A quick follow-up.  There are still Meehans living in Eniskillen at the 1901  Census.  There are 11 members in 2 or 3 familes. One is a butcher; two, possibly father and son, are car drivers,  but probably not automobiles.

This is not my family line. I have looked at Meehans from Fermanagh, however, for several years now.  A John Meehan ( Mechan ) was enlisted in British military records in 1829 from Aghalurcher Fermanagh. This is several miles east of Enniskillen. John had a brother, named Dennis.  I have returned Meehan familes from several other areas in Fermanagh also, but have not kept records.

Census records do not return any Meehans in Enniskillen up to 1851, the Census before the 1901.   There is also ( a rather unfriendly ) births etc site at Rootsireland, which no longer allows you to identify births by County, until you pay.

Australia / Re: Death of B W J PLANT in Tasmania

While this message is over 2 years old, and I assume you are  related to Plant through his first wife, I can fill you in on Gwendoline Batten's birth and family details, if you would like the information.  She was the daughter of a cousin of my grandmother.
I would also like to thank you for providing extra information for my studies, which are slowly being filled in.
However, according to Villa Carr index, she does not appear to have died in Launceston, and she is not obvious on the Springvale index in Melbourne.
Interestingly enough, she is not listed under the name Plant in the 1949 electoral roll for Victoria.

Back again, but I do have trouble, as I have no personal or indepth knowledge of Ireland.  I tried to locate Kerran and conistently meet a brick wall.  There is definitely a Kells. The closest parish to Kerran that I can come up with is Templekeeran  ( Templekeeran ). Should I suggest that fondness for the locality might have abbreviated this to Keeran?
Kerran is more likely to be a surname, and is related to the Kernan/Mckernan group.
Regarding the 1857 Griffiths valuations, I have revisited the site.  However, no luck there, for either Kells or 'Keeran.  in fact, over half of the Farleys lived in "Moynalty".
The only link I found was this group of four names

Farley   Catherine   Golashane       Moynalty   Meath
Farley   Catherine   Shancarnan   Moynalty   Meath
Farley   Catherine   Newtown        Newtown   Meath
Farley   Catherine   Killynan (Cooke)  Rathconnell   Westmeath
I have provided them, just in case your information eventually gives you a link and have tried to underline Shancarnan, because phonetically it is similar to Keeran .    Raveon = Victoria

Sorry, there was one other item.
The Griffiths valuations for Meath in 1857, or thereabouts, lists 61 Farleys in Meath.  There was no Kells parish listed. Your people might already have left, of course. And as you have mentioned above, you may have received the wrong information.

 >:(  I sent you an earlier message, which appears to have gone astray.
Basically it advised the information on the 1881 Census
Catherine Finnen  Age: 44    Spouse's name: William Finnen    lived 20 Telary St  St Martin Liverpool
Children include Owen Finnen 8
It also gave the advice that Catherine Farley married William Finnen in Liverpool in  1859

Australia / Re: Vic Birth Lookup Please - Thomas MOONEY b.1862
« on: Wednesday 24 February 10 04:53 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for the advice, Cando.
Did as I was asked and did not need to waste the time at the library this morning, although I did research for myself as well.   Perhaps I can provide another aspect to this, having taken the link.

110 Mooney, James Farmer Freehold Willowmavin
181 Seymour, Malachi Farmer Freehold Willowmavin

Denis MOONEY m Mary SEYMOUR 1877 # 7656X1906

The pasting immediately above is from your link.  The two above it have been taken from the 1856 Kilmore Electoral Roll for Victoria's Legislative Council ( Upper House ). This is available and can be easily found with the four word search.  My assumption now is that Dennis Mooney and Mary Seymour were "neighbours", geographically and socially, as Willowmavin is an area just west of Kilmore.  Kilmore is miles from Keilor, or the Keilor Plains  - in present terms, 60 - 80 kms.  As a Victorian, I find it hard to reconcile some of the postings about Mooneys at Keilor in this present discussion ( and refer to Bridget b Cork, not Richmond)  and someone, who, as early as 1856, held enough land to give him a vote in Victoria's Upper House of parliament.  Contradictions appear to exist in both discussions.
