« on: Thursday 26 October 17 23:04 BST (UK)  »
Thanks all!
Dawn, I struggled to attach what I did - I couldn't figure how to attach a snippet of the document. Technology isn't my thing lol.

Thanks for suggestions Peter, no I haven't tried alternative spellings yet..... yes, I wonder if her parents died when she was young.... I can't find anything on them yet either.
I'll keep trying!

Thanks for all your replies x

Can anyone help with the maiden surname of Ann McDonalds mother in this marriage cert please?

I've been working on it as 'Margaret Dalgety' but getting absolutely nowhere!

Any suggestions/ideas welcome x

Hi Annie,

Alexanders daughter (Janet - sometimes Jessie - Cadenhead) was born 1794 in Aberdeen. His wife was Janet (sometimes Jessie) Nicol (b. 1760, d 1859), also from Aberdeen so I am presuming he is from Aberdeen too...
😊

Looking for any information that might lead me to my 4x great grandfather, Alexander Cadenhead. I've just found his daughters baptism record that says he is deceased before she is even born. She was baptised (in Aberdeen) 17 June 1794 so he died any time in the 9 months (give it take...) leading up to her birth.
His wife never married again although I can't find any marriage details for them, she still has his surname on her death certificate (she died age 99, hope I've got her genes!!)

Anyway, on his wife's death cert is says he was a 'ship sailor, merchant service'

I can't find any death details for him and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me (or point me in the right direction) what would the Merchant Services be used for at this time and is there anywhere I can see if he died while 'on duty'

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Hi ColC and Forfarian, thank you so much for your help - I couldn't find Peter in 1881 so that's a big help and also I didn't have the 1851 census.

I have spent a small fortune (enough to buy a coffee shop let alone a coffee 😅, but don't tell my husband lol) over the years at scotlandspeople and unfortunately neither Peter or Betty's parents are on their death certificates. I suppose it's because they were quite old when they died and their family didn't know or couldn't remember their grandparents? Peters does show a William Clark as his father but blank for his mother so I'm not convinced the 'William' would be precise.....

Anyway, I have a theory..... Peter and Betsy had in the 1891 and 1901 census, their great grandson William Stark Clark living with them and also in the 1881 census their grand daughter Ann Robertson Clark was living with Betsy. Now, Crafford Ford died in 1848, age 39 - possibly in child birth as David Ford has 9 children in the 1851 census and is widowed, the youngest of his children is age 3 which would work with Craffords death in 1848 but I've not got her death cert yet.... and the Clarks & Fords are all in the same place on the 1851 census..... My theory is that Betsy was a motherly type (having 'taken in' her grand daughter then great grandson) and perhaps help look after the Ford children when their mother died and therefore when GD Ford erected the gravestone in memory of his parents, he included Peter and Betsy.....

Might be way off the mark but can't think of any other reason for the moment, I'll keep trying though!

Thanks again  :)

Angus (Forfarshire) / CLARK & FORD connection Dunnichen
« on: Wednesday 22 February 17 23:28 GMT (UK)  »
I have Peter Clark (d 1905) and his wife Betsy Clark (ms Low) (d 1902) buried in Dunnichen. I am stuck with a connection to the FORD family though and wonder if anyone could offer any suggestions!

Peter and Betsy are buried along with David Ford (d 1861) and Crawford Ford (ms Pullar) (d 1848).

The gravestone was Erected by G.D. Ford U.S.A. in memory of his parents.

I can find no family connection with my Clarks and the Fords although the Clarks had a daughter named Agnes Ford Clark and the Fords had a daughter named Annie Sturrock Clark - I believe Peter Clarks mother was a Sturrock but can't prove that yet.

The Clarks and Fords are both living at East Craichie in the 1841 census but the Fords are the farmers with servants and Peter Clark is 'just' an ag labourer.

Any suggestions would be welcome as to why they are buried together

Thanks

Hi,

I'm a grandaughter of Ethna and John Mc Cabe, Ardara, Co. Donegal.  Ethna and John had seven children all of whom are alive, Phonsie is my father.  Ethna's mother was Annie Sweeney and her father was Patrick Maloney.

Ray and one of his brothers came to visit in the past.

Grandad (John Mc Cabe) passed away 5years ago.  Ethna is still alive and due to celebrate her 90th birthday on the 2nd Nov 2009.

I'd love to hear from you and more about your husband's family.

Donna. :)

Hi Donna, happy new year.  How great to hear from you.  I've sent you a message and hope you got it ok.  Would love to swap info about our family...  Hope to hear from you soon

« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 11:10 BST (UK)  »
hi Genjen,
I am desperate to find a connection and more information on my Raitt....

I have Jane Raitt born about 1781 Aberdeenshire.  She married Robert Russel.  I am struggling to find any more information about her - she is aged 50 in the 1841 cenus and living in John Street,Aberdeen.  In the 1851 census she is aged 65 living at Spring Gardens Aberdeen.  I have details of all their children but can't find any further Raitt information.

Do you have any connection?
Thanks
Lindsay
