Lancashire / Re: Heaton Park Prefabs
« on: Tuesday 03 November 15 12:04 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sandra,

I didn't live in the prefabs but I remember the them well... Sheepfoot Lane and Bury Old Road... we virtually lived in Heaton Park in our youth and I can remember thinking how lucky they were to actually live within the Park. I also remember some prefabs at the north of the park where we spent a day from school on a nature day.

What triggered my memory though was the circus you mentioned, I'm writing my sister's Bio ... she ran the 'Pets Corner' for awhile ... and I  'remember' the circus came in at Victoria Station and they walked up Cheetham Hill Road all the way to Heaton Park, elephants and all ! I 'remember' a chap called Heinz ... who I think sis was dating ... who I think was the Owner - Boss ? who drove a huge white Merc and reminded me of Jethro of 'Beverley Hillbillies' fame . All this was about 1958 +- and if you could remember the name of the circus I'd be very grateful and it would also confirm it actually happened !

Regards Chris   :)  ???

Lancashire / Re: help please - Annie Ellen Tranter born around 1884
« on: Friday 17 April 15 13:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  Mary Tranter, Marple Street father George, marries Thomas Doherty in 1908 Salford, mother maybe Mary ( Skelton )
George looks as though he's living in Bryan Street,Hanley,Stoke on Trent with uncle James in 1881 even tho' his birth is listed Hanley.
George along with Joseph, Ellen (married and living in Stoke), and others, children of Thomas Tranter and Ann Atherton married Saint Mary's Eccles 1854.
Bro' Joseph looks a sad life and maybe Mary Alice's dad, maybe his wife Elizabeth Owen and son Thomas in ' Lodgings ' in Hankinson Street,Pendleton 1901.

I have a Richard Tranter and Athertons in my Tree tho' no connections so far.

George Tranter 1860 - 1898 and Joseph Tranter 1858 - 1915 look good bets  :)

Hi Maverick,

This isn't much but you never know... Annie Hamlet's address was shown as The Junction Hotel when she was married to Harold George (my relly) in 1905.Harold lived in Hendham Vale and in 1901 Annie's parents were Henry Moses Hamlet and Sarah Ann Moses and were the Licensees of The Robin Hood Hotel,Barton Road,Stretford.Maybe they moved to The Junction but Henry Moses and Sarah Ann were dead by 1904... To be or not to be ... sorry couldn't resist !  :D

There's loads of local history with The Junction at the junction of Collyhurst - Harpurhey - Smedley - Cheetham borders. You may know Smedley Old Hall ( one time home of the Chethams) was down Hendham Vale along with Elkie Brooks' dad's bakery Bookbinders, just for starters.
