Dunbartonshire / Re: Auchentoshan Ave
« on: Monday 05 December 22 21:10 GMT (UK)  »
Greetings to all. My name is David Marley and I am interested in any information regarding my father James (Jim) Marley and his family. His mother and father were Daniel (Dan) Marley and Margaret (Peggy) Marley nee Anderson who lived on Auchentoshan Ave.

Of particular interest to me is the fact that Dan and Peggy were not my father's biological parents. The biological parents were John Hector Marley and Catherine Clarke who lived in Clydebank, Whitecrook, I think. I am keen to know the connection between John Hector Marley and Daniel Marley.

Any information would be most appreciated.

David Marley

Hi Terri, I would think either Kilbowie cemetery,Montrose street Clydebank G81.....or Old Dalnottar. If you Google these addresses they should be able to help. The Clydebank library should help, but not at its full capacity because of Virus. x

.....Should have mentioned there is a cemetery in Dumbarton, which would have come under Old Kilpatrick.  There is also Kilbowie cemetery in Clydebank, that's why it would be helpful to know where they lived.xx

Hi Terri, it would help if you knew where they lived.  He may have worked in Clydebank, but not lived there.  The crematorium that Col mentioned was built in late 60s/70s. The only other crematorium was in Cardross.  The North cemetery was established in the 70s. I would take a guess and say they were buried in the Old Dalnottar.  There is also an old cemetery in the village of Old Kilpatrick. Try cemetery offices at Great Western Road G60 5HO. And you can try  scotlandspeople website for births, marriages, Deaths xx

Hi Harry, sorry i've taken so long to get back to you. Thanks for the info. Of course you didn't bore me. Don't think we will ever find the answer. My G Grandmother applied for help and relief on 8th November 1881. She was given 2/6 per week, but when she became pregnant to Frank Mahon??? she was struck off for co-habiting ,and was admitted to the poorhouse. That's when we found out that she was a widow aged 35 who had 3 children ,who worked at the pithead at the Ironstone mine in Garscadden. one of her children Mary worked there ,she was 13years.The said Frank worked in the mine, and G Granny Helen took him in as a lodger, but when he found out she was pregnant he absconded back to Ireland. So I don't think we will ever find out ,as through the years the family refused to talk about it. x

Hi Harper, If Elizabeth lived in Bearsden, there's a fair chance she will be buried in New Kilpatrick cemetery. There is a Facebook page for the cemetery.
