You are absolutely right. John Robert Forsyth married Alicia Haslett and their daughter, Alicia Forsyth married Robert McQueen. I was asleep at the wheel when I posted the error. Thanks for catching it.

Clackmannanshire / Thomas Nairn/Nairne Family in Clackmannan
« on: Monday 27 August 12 20:21 BST (UK)  »
Thomas Nairn married Elizabeth Thomson in 1775 and they had 8 children that Thomas (as Schoolmaster) recorded in the Parish records. New information from 19th century family papers says that Thomas had 2 older sons, Thomas and Peter. They are not in the Clackmannan records and because a handwriting change in the records indicated Thomas began recording in 1768, I think they were born before then. The new information says that all of Thomas Nairn’s sons were in the Royal Navy. Peter died escaping from prison in France (no date but assume during the Napoleonic Wars). Thomas, the oldest, was secretary to Lord Keith and died in London. I would like some ideas about how to use this information to find Thomas Nairn’s first marriage and the birth of his older sons and possibly his parents. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you may have on this matter.

Thanks, Mo. It looks as if the spelling of the name was certainly not settled in the mid 1800s. I will be checking under Mc Craynor.

I wonder why, too, since John and Elizabeth were both in Ardwick. Apparently there were no more children in the marriage after William. Were they separated? Also noticed via familysearch.org that Rebecca was again a visitor in a Lever household, Head was Thomas Lever age 28. Wonder if that means anything.

I also found on the Lancashire BMD Joseph Creanor born 1847 Chorlton-on-Medlock.

Getting late here so I'll have to sign off for tonight. Thanks again for the help.

Thank you so much for the help. Rebecca sure looks like the motherand I hope more turns up. Craynor seems to be an uncommon name for the area so you'd think this would be easier.

The 1871 Census is new to me. I did have the 1891 census and some BMD info. Elizabeth Griffiths Craynor died in 1881. John remarried in 1882 to Isabella Newman Wilburn in Hunslet, Leeds as Frederick John Craynor. He is at Hunslet on the 1911 Census.

Here is the family group that I have.

John Craynor b. 1846 Manchester, Lancashire, England
m. June qtr 1871 Salford St. Simon Church
Elizabeth Griffiths  b. 1846  d. Sept qtr 1881 Chorlton Lancashire, England

m.2. June qtr 1882 Isabella Newman in Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire, England
Isabella b. 1857 or 1862 Leeds, Yorkshire, England m.1. ? Wilburn

Children of John Craynor and Elizabeth Griffiths:

1.   Minnie Craynor b. Jun qtr 1872 Chorlton, Manchester, Lancashire, England
2.   Joseph Craynor b. Mar qtr 1874 Chorlton, Manchester, Lancashire, England
3.   William Craynor b. Jun qtr 1875 Chorlton, Manchester, Lancashire, England  d. Dec qtr 1876 Prestwich, England

Children of John Craynor and Isabella Newman:

1.   John  b. & d. June qtr 1882 Hunslet, Leeds, Yorkshire, England

Lancashire / John Craynor and Elizabeth Griffiths
« on: Tuesday 30 March 10 23:03 BST (UK)  »
John Craynor and Elizabeth Griffiths were married in 1871 at St. Simon, Salford. They had 2 children, Minnie b. 1872 and Joseph b. 1874 Chorlton. Mininie married Thomas Garvin 1891. This family lived in the Chorlton/ Openshaw/Gorton areas of Manchester.

I haven't been able to find parents for John or Elizabeth and would apprecaite any help.

Craynor may have various spellings and may actually be Graynor.
