You would definately have been able to get from Abingdon to Thame, via Dorchester on the water.  ;)

You can see little bits from the roads and paths, but not much. There is a big security system too, so don't try to get any closer!!
However, if you want to see what it looks like now (its state of decay is rather upsetting) look at  www.derelictplaces.co.uk and search for Fairmile.
At the moment it seems that the Fairmile development site remains on the back burner, although the plans are in and agreed, and developer chosen. Its for demolition of the 1920's and later additions to the site and conversion of the victorian building to luxury flats and multiple new properties throughout the extensive grounds.

Oxfordshire / Lockinge Estate
« on: Monday 12 July 10 18:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi guys,

I just wanted to offer my services as a resident (and bumbling historian) of the Lockinge Estate, which also includes Ardington, East Lockinge, West Lockinge and Ginge, all near Wantage.

If anyone would like me to do any look-ups then just post requests on here or PM me

:)

Gloucestershire / Local archives?
« on: Sunday 28 March 10 23:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm looking to trace our family; various surnames but all based in the Nailsworth and Stroud area.

On one branch I've got the house that they lived in, but there seem to be two families with the same name in the same very small parish, so I don't know which is ours as the census doesn't define that; would more local archives have that info?

Many thanks!
