This is all that we have, as we are concentrating on the Cumming surname.

Robert MacDonald and Catharine Cumming in Drumachuine

The OPR marriage entry for Catharine Cumming and Robert MacDonald, wright in Drumachuine has not been found, and the name of Catharine's husband comes from her death certificate. The couple seem to have married around 1812 as they had a child baptised the following year, named Robert. Unfortunately, the child seems to have died in infancy as another son Robert was baptised two years later.

8th January 1813, Logierait OPR
Robert, lawful son to Robert MacDonald, wright, and Katharine Cumming in Drumachuine was born January 8th 1813.

21st February 1815, Logierait OPR
Robert, lawful son to Robert MacDonald, wright, and Katharine Cumming in Lynruich of Drumachuine was born February 21st 1815.

Catharine was a widow by the time of the 1841 census when she and her son were living at Blairfettie in Glen Errochty. Robert MacDonald in Blairfettie married Margaret Gow in Kindrochit (of Struan), 23rd April 1843. She was the daughter of Duncan Gow, joiner, and Elizabeth Gow.

The 1861 National Census took place on 7th April by which time Catharine was being cared for by her married son at Pitagowan.

How great to find this fairly recent entry regarding my ancestors !  I believe Donald & Janet to be my 5 x great grandparents through their daughter Catharine , born around 1781 . She married a Robert McDonald - marriage date not found- and died in 1861 in Pittagowan.  That gives me something to work on ! Thanks all !

Thanks Annette,  I had  looked at those names but I really like to have something more concrete before I adopt people :). Saves a lot of deleting further down the track ! I think this is likely to remain a cold case....

Fife / Searching for John Wood, abt 1880 , Bowhill
« on: Thursday 23 August 12 08:00 BST (UK)  »
This is a real long shot....
I have discovered a little hush up job in the family & I'm now trying to trace my real great grandfather
John wood in the 1911 census age 32 , coal hewer, born Bowhill listed as single, was a lodger at my supposed great grandparents home in Buckhaven.
Their names were Robert & Helen Bell.
Now, g.gran was widowed late 1911 & my grandfather was born 360 days later.
On his birth entry , John wood is listed as his father.
He left before too long as ggran married another chap in 1914. ( popular woman!  :o)
I can't find a birth for John. Can't find another census where Bowhill or surrounds is listed as birth place. Nothing calling me in deaths or marriages.  ???
Anyone out there have John in their tree?

Thx in anticipation.

AHA!  I did wonder if it was u. All these sign in names don't help!
I had, as it happens. just got the urge to open up my tree & poke a bit this week.  Ended up on the Christies and thought Id check the Catholic registers & yes there they were!
I googled McG to Christie & up comes this thread. !

Anyhow, Ive also looked for entries for the two children she has called Moran. Cant find deaths for them. Cant find a marriage for her to a Moran but they may have been in Ireland. Cant find  a death for a Moran in Midlothian to fit. Since Betsy was born in Scotland I wondered if Bridget's husband had died here. Cant see anything obvious in the census's for the 2 Moran children after 1851.
With that entry for John McG in the poorhouse...I wonder why not one family member came to witness him. Or why was he not living with family?  Seems such a shame!

Anyway.. I must away & get ready for a days work. Have a great one & love to all.

Ladies,

you are talking about my GGG grandfather, Daniel Christie.  Would love to exchange notes with u. Have been wondering myself why they changed names. The name Christie stuck in my line.
