Monaghan / Castleblaney Blacksmiths
« on: Wednesday 03 August 05 03:08 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have any information of Castleblaney Blacksmiths (as in occupation/trade of Blacksmith).

I understand there was a Blacksmith forge in 'Skinners Lane' in the vicinity of West St, after 1810. Can anyone clarify an owner or tenant by the name of James Hughes (married Margaret McShane from Drumacon) post 1810.

Many thanks

Ele, yes it is an address but Frank & Marrionette have retired from the B&B line of work. I would suugest writting directly to that address.

Good luck.

Ele, this is going to seem a bit far fetched but I have McQuade link in my family line - the link is tenuous.

My forebear - James Hughes (blacksmith, Castleblaney) rented his forge from a Francis McQuade (not certain of spelling) in West St, Castleblaney circa post 1800.

They resided in the Drumacon region of Castleblaney

I visited Castlebalney in 1988 and stayed in a B&B that was owned by Francis McQuade - Francis claimed that the old Francis was a direct relative. Thus, find Francis McQuade of the B&B...
