Clotworthy Devitt birth 1787 in Antrim looks very promising, guess that's all that you have managed to find, but you never know with this little bit of information I maybe able to go further

Thanks and Regards

Thank you very much for your response, yes I have all of that information.  After many years of research we are unable to get any further, but keep on trying, with the hope that any small snippet of information will be discovered and open up another trail to explore.  I found a newspaper article stating that James Devitt was from Devittt Hall in County Down, so now trying to find out where that could have been
Thanks and Regards

Antrim / JAMES DEVITT - DEVITT HALL COUNTY DOWN
« on: Thursday 03 August 17 15:34 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for Devitt Hall in County Down, but I haven't any idea of the town, so wondered if it was possibly in County Antrim as James son Clotworthy was reportedly born in Antrim

James Devitt was recorded as the father at the wedding of his son Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt to Jane Buck in Dublin 6th Oct 1816.  A newspaper article states that James was from Devitt Hall County Down

From the English Census records my 3 x great grandfather Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt was born in Antrim around 1790 and his father was stated as James a Farmer on his 2nd marriage to Jane Willats 07/06/1851

Clotworthy's first marriage was to Jane Buck at St Mary's Dublin in 1816 and they had 10 children.  Jane died in 1832 with Cholera.  I have traced 4 children who were living in England and a further 2 from newspaper articles.
Andrew abt 1818 died 1841
Anna Maria b.1823
John Furlong b.1824 d. 1905 my 2 x great grandfather
Daughter b.1827
Alicia b.1831 d.1894
Walter Worthy b.1824 d.1910
All of these children were born in Dublin

Does anyone know of a Devitt Hall in County Down??

Regards
Maggie.

Hi Tim

Thank you so much for the above information.  I imagine that there are possibly many more children of that marriage as well.  It certainly is tricky without church records to back up information.  We have lost the trail completely with regards to Jane's husband Clotworthy, I and a cousin have been whittling away at this since 2003 and a lot of our invaluable information has come from newspapers as well.  You said your grandmother has a Buck line I would very much love you to share any other information you may have and really hope that someday from trawling through newspapers we finally make the positive connection to Rev Dr Andrew and my solicitor Andrew.
Thanks and Regards
Maggie

Hi Tim
I haven't visited RootsChat for ages and have only just seen your message.   I had found evidence that Jane's parents were Andrew Buck and Maria Campbell but the family only appear to possibly link into Dr Rev Andrew Buck and Elizabeth Sydney, do you have more positive information that Andrew is a child from that marriage?   I look forward to hearing from you with any further information you may have on my branch of the Buck's

Hi Isobelw

Thank you for your interest and comments.  I had the insolvency notice for Thomas Devitt & Co. Not sure if Clotworthy Dobbin Devitt is connected to the Clotworthy family, this could of course be the maiden name of his mother/grandmother, his fathers name was James Devitt and he was a farmer.  Clotworthy was born in Antrim, but I have no idea where.

Hi myluck

Thank you so much for your information

In answer to you questions, I have not found a grave for Jane or birth record, I am presuming that she may have been buried at St Mary's Dublin, as that is where Clotworthy and Jane were married.
The children I found were in the Midlands England, which would answer the reason for Clotworthy being in Birmingham.  I have not got that information, the first information I have is a 1841 census showing Alicia and Walter Worthy in  Birmingham and a marriage record for John Furlong who married in Burton-upon-Trent and lived in Wolverhampton.  Have you any information of Clotworthy  in Birmingham, what records are there?

Regards
Margaret
