Out of interest i just did a google search with his name and the town: Llanfair Cilgedin and this came up...


William Gregory: p325

Wm Gregory late of Llanfair Cilgedin, gent held certain lands in
Goitre called BWRGWM DENNIS at a chief rent of 10d

It appears he was a land owner.

So they moved around a lot? Because I have a family and have so far gone as far back as 1853, all relates to your Winnifred, and all born in Dewsbury.

How know you they were gypsies?

I have this up to now...

She was the daughter of Joseph Gallagher, b. Sep. 1888 in Dewsbury and Mary Vincent McGuinness, b. Jun 1891 in Cockermouth. They married in June 1914 in Dewsbury and Winifred was born in Dec the same year, which suggests that Winnifred was concieved out of wedlock and her parents married as soon as her mother found out she was pregnant. (a 'Shot-Gun Wedding, as it is called.)

Winnifred had two sisters: Rose I Gallagher, born Mar 1925 in Dews, and Dorothy, b. Mar 1930, Dews.

I'll update when I have any more.

Hi,

I have found a birth on the free BMD website.

GALLAGHER   Winnifred     Dewsbury     9b   1070       (Dewsbury is in the West Riding of Yorkshire)

she was born Dec. 1914 and her mother's maiden name was McGuinness.


I will do a little more researxch and then let you know of my findings.
