I have been studying the Bertie for many years and this is the contents of the 1871 Census.

Wonder if I can help

I have been searching for this as well but it is Blackies Mill in Aberlemno near Brechin.

Hope that helps and there is another set of entries with photographs that i have just come across.

My family (the Berties) were from Aberlemno in the 1600 - 1800 and wondered if they worked in Blackies Mill and i have been trying to track down information on it for a little while.  Thank you for letting me join in.

We have a John Bertie died 23.02.1883 by being knocked down by a railway train.  He lived at Benholm and Bervie, might be interested to see if what they found is buried at your churchyard.

Sorry did not see page 2 when i sent in my reply.

Yarn or Yard (yard cleaning after butchering?)  Just a thought but more than likely the Yarn it is just that the last letter has the long upward swing like a 'd'.

You are quite right but it did throw me off a little while thinking that there was an error in dates.  What i have been trying to chase is the m.s. is this maiden name or married name in the census returns.  I have someone who is born a BERTIE but says m.s. Wilson.  Confusing to say the least.
Many thanks for the reply and update.

I just love this site and did not expect a reply so soon.  The information is great so if you do find out anything would be grateful.
