England / Re: Emerson Family in England

Hi

I am involved in a website called www.britishhomechildren.org where we are slowly building a website and database which we hope will eventually contain the details of all children sent overseas.

Please feel free to add the Emerson children to our database or claim them if they are already in there

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Reginald F Tovey

Did you manage to trace his family??

This family was featured on tuesdays edition of Heir Hunters and Reginald was the only line they could'nt trace, all they said on the programme was that he went to Canada in 1930 they could not pick up the trail

Travelling People / Tracing a relative who travelled with Carnivals in America
« on: Monday 30 August 10 15:52 BST (UK)  »
I have recently discovered that someone I have been researching travelled throughout America with various Carnivals and Circuses, he was last heard of in Ada, Oklahoma in 1935 aged at that time about 44, his name was Charles Russell Hetherington but he also used the aliases of Russell Charles Hetherington, Carl Hetherington & Dan Hetherington, he was born in Norwood, Canada so could potentially have returned to Canada too.

At one point in 1932 he stayed at the Blue Bird Camp, Waco, Texas

Does anyone have any tips as to how I can trace him?

from 1860s through to 1970s, children were sent by orphanages and workhouses in the UK to be placed as servants or be adopted in Canada (and to Australia & New Zealand from 1920s-1970s)

these children became known as home children or child migrants,

more than 100,000 went to Canada, the exact number that were sent to Australia & New Zealand is not really known,

so if you have a child in your tree who you cannot find a death for but seems to have vanished then you could consider it a possibility

we are also building a comprehensive database on www.britishhomechildren.org of all child migrants sent to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc, anybody is welcome to add a child to the database or claim a child currently in there, at the moment there are 9385 children listed, some have a descendant listed in their 'record' on there but the majority do not,

We are inputting names every day so please check the site regularly.

The sad thing is that some of these kids died in the war, died single, or did not have children so even if you are only distantly linked to a child migrant please think about claiming them

Thanks
