Glamorganshire Resources & Offers / Re: Bassett Families of South Wales

Hi Sue,
I spent some time checking England Census of 1851 & 1861 for David Bassett.  I also looked for and found your Harriett Bassett Gagen.  I see what you mean that the 1861 census for her does not list her birth parish. I also tried to find a David Bassett on the 1841 parish (born 1795 to 1815).  I found one living in Staffordshire and one in Hampshire but neither had a daughter Harriett or Adelaide.  I also checked the 1841 Wales census and found 1 David from Llanelly.  I have him in my database but no Harriett/Adelaide.  Sorry I can't be of more help.  Another shire I have little Bassett info on is Gloucestershire.

Hi Sue,
To whom did Harriet A. Bassett marry in 1857?  I would like to try finding her on the England census of 1861 to see what birth parish is listed.  I checked my rather large Bassett database and do not find her or a David Bassett that seems to fit.  However, my Bassett research has been almost exclusively Welsh.  There are so many English Bassetts I have not tried to catalog their branches.
Do you know anything more about her father David?

For Sale / Wanted / Events / Bassett Family Book
« on: Saturday 31 March 12 12:10 BST (UK)  »
This summer I will be privately printing a decade’s work of research on the Bassetts of Wales.  The heart of the 500 page book are transcripts of every Will from the National Library of Wales (100 in total) and another 30 Prerogative of Canterbury Wills.  I have throughly researched primary sources such as: all Glamorgan parish baptisms, marriages & burials); all Wales census 1841 – 1901; secondary sources such as: Diary of Wm Thomas; pedigrees including Golden Grove, Batrum & Limbus Patrum plus the 1846 book by Christopher Bassett.  To make it more aesthetically pleasing, the book is rich in graphics (about 90 total, many will be printed in color).  It will include a thorough index.  Finally, I will be including a CD with each copy which will contact a Gedcom file of all my Welsh research (about 10,000 names). The book will be printed at my cost.  I am making arrangements through a children’s charity in Glamorgan to enable those who would prefer to pay in £ Sterling to do so via a donation which would cost £30 (including postage).  I only plan on printing the number I expect to sell.  If you are interested, please contact me.

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much for your detailed replay.  I live in the U.S. and am not at all familiar with the records at Kew.  I will have to check online to see if I can access any of them.  In 2 months I am going to the LDS Family History Library in Salt Lake City.  I was hoping to find microfilms of Excise records in their vast library but have checked their online card catalog and see that they do not have these records.  Perhaps I will have to consider hiring a researcher.

I am trying to locate the person who created the website:
http://www.trease.org.uk/trb/trb17w_gg/trb17w_gg_excise.htm

There is an entry that mentions my ancestor Thomas BASSETT.  I would like to learn what records to search to find out more about Thomas' service as an Excise Officer.
