Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Hursley in Herefordshire??
« on: Saturday 21 January 23 10:45 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I realise this is an old request and that you may have already got an answer.  But others may be interested.  This topic popped up when doing my own search for Hursley in Herefordshire.
There is a Hurstley in Letton in Herefordshire and previously spelt as Hursley (or at least it was in the early 17th century).
edit: And just realised that someone has already provided this answer.  Oops!

I am so so sorry for the delay.

The list for Crosby Ravensworth is for the parish so covers Maulds Meaburn.  There are no Elwoods nor variants.

Westmorland / Re: Glover/Bainbridge in Kendal/Appleby

Hi
Is there any possibility that your George's parents came from Scotland or Northumberland?  All the Glover marriages in the 18th that have diocese of Carlisle licences involve someone from 'North Britain' (and Annandale in particular) or Northumberland.  Was there sufficient money for marriage licences to be feasible for the family you are researching?

I mentioned these marriages before.   I'm not trying to make facts fit - you may have strong reasons for discounting them and/or may already have the details.

Cumberland / Re: SILL family
« on: Saturday 09 May 15 20:12 BST (UK)  »
I just looked in the Diocese of Carlisle marriage licences to see if any of the marriages mentioned had licences.  I have no knowledge of the Sill family but just in case you can glean something from the entry (Sill not being that common a name):

08 Nov 1729
groom: John Bushby, of Hole, Wigton, gentleman
bride: Mary Sill, of parish Wigton, widow (above 21 years)
bondsman: Joseph Tiffen (or Tiften) of Crosshill, Wigton yeoman or gentleman
marriage to take place at Wigton

There is a marriage licence issued for a Mary Sill widow of Wigton on 08 Nov 1729.  This could be the widow of your Richard.  Please let me know if you want more details.

Cumberland / Re: Joseph Forster of Bewcastle c1722
« on: Monday 05 January 15 20:54 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching the Forsters/Foresters/Forresters/Fosters of the Bewcastle area.  I am hoping someone may be able to help with providing a birth date and parents of Joseph Forster born c 1722.  Joseph lived at Oakshaw, Bewcastle and married Elizabeth Hunter in 1774 (he was a widower).  He was buried at Bewcastle in 1784 aged 62.  Elizabeth died at Oakshaw in 1822 aged 69.

here's hoping!!!!

Hi
I have a diocese of Carlisle marriage licence reference for the first marriage of Joseph Forster (I think):
16 Oct 1756
Joseph Foster, Bewcastle, bachelor, yeoman
Ann Pruddam, Brampton, single woman
bondsman: Allen Routledge, Carlisle, gentleman
marriage to take place at Brampton

and for his second marriage: Eliz Hunter being of Toddles in Bewcastle

also possibly for his father George if you are interested.

Deborah

Westmorland / Re: Hugh HUGILL marriage ca 1675 and death ca 1707
« on: Monday 05 January 15 20:27 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
Thank you both for your replies and for the work involved!
I had not seen the 1573 Philip Hewgill reference, the 1631 conveyance nor the Appleby wills so that is extra information to be processed.
I already have (most of) the CR wills, some of the CR manorial records, the CR parish records and some other references for Hugills.  There is a lot of information there but still some blanks.
I'm trying to fill in those blanks and was hoping that someone might have the information I wanted without resorting to ordering anything.  I'm just being lazy!
Thanks again
Deborah
