World War Two / Re: Medical Category AWI (OS)
« on: Thursday 22 August 13 19:59 BST (UK)  »
Thank you, James.  That fits in very well.  I never realised my mother had heart problems but I learned through family history that all the males on her side of the family had heart attacks or blocked arteries in their fifties.

My mother served in the A.T.S. and was "examined at Leeds on 28th June 1945 and placed in medical category AWI (OS)" prior to discharge.   Was does that mean, please?
P.S. I don't know if the 'I' is a '1' or an 'I'.

World War II Identity Cards

46 million residents in Britain received Identity Cards a few days after National Registration Day, Friday, September 29th 1939.  One of the 65,000 government enumerators would have delivered a form and then collected it on the Sunday and Monday after Registration Day.  My Mother’s Identity Number records the four letter Enumeration District Code (YNTZ) plus her line number of the Schedule that was completed by the enumerator, (Line 65) and her position as the 7th person in the household.  I cannot find a list of District Codes but from the size of household I assumed she was living at Hawthorn Bank, Spalding.  Can anyone help me, please?

Can anyone help me identify the District Code which was allocated the prefic 'YNTZ' in the 1939 National Registration and Identity Card scheme, please?

I expect it could be Spalding, Lincolnshire or Colne Lancashire.

Thank you
H.H.

Don't know if you are interested but there is Catheren Newham daughter Thomas Newham of South Duffield baptised Jun 7 1622, presumably St Mary's two miles from and in the Hemingbrough Parish

Thank you, this is excellent.

From your help today, I have made contact with a relative of Hannah Markham's husband so I have been able to pass on your great information.  Many people have benefitted from your support.
Sincerely
Greg Markham
