Thanks for the informtion in regard to Bristol.
Charlotte's family scene is rather complicated so I hope I can make it clear. She was born about 1865 (from Census records - in Bristol Gloucestershire). Her mother was Eliza BERRY born Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales. Eliza married Thomas LEWIS in Abergavenny in 1860. He was born in Builth and occupation was sugar boiler. They had one chld in 1860 named Charles. I assumed that Charlotte was the 2nd child of this union. I have what I believe to be Charlotte's marrige certificate to William FOX in 1882 Wales to find that on the marriage certificate her father's name is listed as Lewis LEWIS (rather than Thomas LEWIS. (surprise!) Lewis Lewis was a baler. What happened to Thomas? This has thrown me.
Charlotte's mother Eliza then moved to Ryde, Isle of Wight, Hampshire and had 2 more children (and a merry dance it was to sort them out) in 1866 and 1868 (Elizabeth and Amelia). These two were born INGRAM, but go under Rowley in later Censuses. Charlotte appears in the 1871 Wales Census under the last name of ROWLEY as do the other children. Her mother Eliza is living with James ROWLEY and census has it that she is his wife but I have their marriage certificate and it appears that they didn't marry until 1884 in Cardiff Wales, he being a widower and she a widow.
I am going to send for the Birth Certificate for Charlotte LEWIS 1865 Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the hope that it is a match. It is 6a Vol 389 Cheltenham, June Quarter. Have you any thoughts on this? It could be a wild guess but I can't think of anything else that is a likely match. Your help would be greatly appreciated if and when you have the time.
I know for certain that Charlotte married a William FOX born in Perth, so I am thinking that the marriage certificate I have is the correct one. I know that it is Charlotte on the 1871 and 1901 Census, (married and named Lottie Fox). Both these census are in Wales. I have tried looking up Lewis LEWIS but there are so many and I don't quite know where to start or where he was born.
Many thanks, Fay
