Thanks for trying to help.  I think neither of these Charlottes is the one I am searching (sadly).  Back to square one with this one.   Fay

On Charlotte's marriage certificate it states her father is Lewis Lewis.  Charlotte is on the 1871 Wales Census under the surname of Rowley.  It states that James Rowley is her father, but in fact he is her step-father.  James and "wife" Eliza are living in King Street Llangattock with children (hers ony) of Charles, Elizabeth and Amelia.

On the 1881 England Census I think she is the Charlotte living in Bristol with surname of Rowley and working as a maid (I could be wrong though).

Do you think that the Charlotte Priscilla Lewis born 1865  registered in Stroud is not a match.  Is this Charlotte's father Thomas Lewis?  I hadn't thought to check the census for this Charlotte (rather silly of me).    I will do a Census check. Many thanks. Fay

I am still on the hunt for birth of Charlotte LEWIS.  On Census records it states that she was born in Bristol about 1865.

I can't find any reference to a Charlotte Lewis to fit while searching Ancestry. com or Family Search.

Her parents were Lewis LEWIS (according to her marriage certificate to William FOX) and mother was Eliza BERRY.  Berry is birth name.

If I can't get a birth registration, how would I go about getting christening information please?

There is a Charlotte Priscilla Lewis born 1865 Stgroud 6a Vol 282 December quarter that may be worth ordering.  I already have ordered the Cheltenham one which is not a match.

Any help most gratefully received.  Fay

Durham Lookup Requests / Re: Alfred INGRAM abt 1833, Durham

Thanks Sumi for your thoughts on Alfred Ingram.  I can track Eliza through all Census but Alfred Ingram is another matter.  By 1871 she has moved on and is with James Rowley in Wales with her four children (however Rowley is claiming them as his own).  I think you could be right in that Alfred Ingram didn't want to be found.  He is not the prisoner as this one appears on the 1891 Census with wife and children.  Also the name Ingram could be a difficult one to find in so far as it is open to a few variations.  Thanks for your look ups and time. Fay

Durham Lookup Requests / Alfred INGRAM abt 1833, Durham
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 05:53 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for an Alfred Ingram born about 1833 in Durham.  In 1871 Census I believe it is him living in Ryde, Isle of Wight, sugar boiler.  Birthplace is given as Dulley Spring, Durham.  His father I believe was William, coal miner.  I have searched all Census but can't seem to find him.  On the 1871 Census it states that he was unmarried, yet there is an Alfred Ingram, sugar boiler on marriage register to Eliza Berry in 1867, Isle of Wight.  I have this marriage certificate.

There is the possibility that the name has been misread.

Any help much appreciated.  Fay

Thanks for the informtion in regard to Bristol.
Charlotte's family scene is rather complicated so I hope I can make it clear.  She was born about 1865 (from Census records -  in Bristol Gloucestershire).  Her mother was Eliza BERRY born Monmouth, Monmouthshire, Wales.  Eliza married Thomas LEWIS  in Abergavenny in 1860.  He was born in Builth and occupation was sugar boiler.  They had one chld in 1860 named Charles.  I assumed that Charlotte was the 2nd child of this union.  I have what I believe to be Charlotte's marrige certificate to William FOX in 1882 Wales to find that on the marriage certificate her father's name is listed as Lewis LEWIS (rather than Thomas LEWIS.  (surprise!) Lewis Lewis was a baler.  What happened to Thomas? This has thrown me.

Charlotte's mother Eliza then moved to Ryde, Isle of Wight, Hampshire and had 2 more children (and a merry dance it was to sort them out) in 1866 and 1868 (Elizabeth and Amelia).  These two were born INGRAM, but go under Rowley in later Censuses.  Charlotte appears in the 1871 Wales Census under the last name of ROWLEY as do the other children.  Her mother Eliza is living with James ROWLEY and census has it that she is his wife but I have their marriage certificate and it appears that they didn't marry until 1884 in Cardiff Wales, he being a widower and she a widow.

I am going to send for the Birth Certificate for Charlotte LEWIS 1865 Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the hope that it is a match.  It is 6a Vol 389 Cheltenham, June Quarter.  Have you any thoughts on this?  It could be a wild guess but I can't think of anything else that is a likely match.  Your help would be greatly appreciated if and when you have the time.

I know for certain that Charlotte married a William FOX born in Perth, so I am thinking that the marriage certificate I have is the correct one.  I know that it is Charlotte on the 1871 and 1901 Census, (married and named Lottie Fox).  Both these census are in Wales.  I have tried looking up Lewis LEWIS but there are so many and I don't quite know where to start or where he was born.
Many thanks, Fay

I cannot seem to find a birth reference for Charlotte Lewis born Bristol in 1865.  I tried looking up just Charlotte and didn't find any results for Bristol at all.  I was wondering if any records were lost during WW2.  Would there be some other reason that I am not aware of?  On Census records it states that Charlotte was born in Bristol - no deviation from this information.

Can anyone enlighten me please?
