« on: Friday 26 April 13 16:24 BST (UK)  »
I have been doing a One Name Study on Cullingworth and Cullingsworth families worldwide for many years, collecting all references and constructing family trees. For my contact details please go to the Guild of One Name Studies website http://www.one-name.org and type either Cullingworth or Cullingsworth into the search box then click on SEARCH.

These Smith family details have ben very useful to me as I'm currently researching the family of Joseph Cullingworth, brother of the Sarah Cullingworth who married James Smith. One of James and Sarah's grandchildren Amy Cullingworth Shaw was in the household of Joseph's 'widow' in the 1911 census as 'niece'. This was the breakthrough that I needed to positively identify which William and Ann were Joseph's parents. So discovering that he had a sister Sarah meant that everything fell into place! I even had James and Sarah's marriage certificate details on my website, not knowing she was connected to Joseph! I have not been able to update the website for several years as I no longer have the program with which I created it, so it had been on there a long time!
So many thanks for posting the Smith family details! I had just applied for a copy of William Cullingworth Smith's birth certificate when I found your post yesterday, such is life!
I would be grateful if you could please contact me via my website www.cullingworth.name so we can compare notes.  :)

Many thanks Megs
I too have been rather busy on other things (writing local history book - no connection to Morcott though!) and don't expect to surface until at least next April!
But I am glad to have more info on this family to file for when things settle down.
I will pass the information to the two friends who research Cullingworth families with me.

Sussex / Re: Bexhill parish registers
« on: Wednesday 29 March 06 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I was at the East Sussex Record Office (ESRO) today and took a note of your query with me as I was intending to look at the Bexhill parish register for something else, but unfortunately ran out of time.
However I wondered if you knew the entry number and the father's given occupation?
The typed transcript book gives baptism number 710, Michal daughter of Thomas and Elisth (Chimney Sweep) Bexhill.
I shall be going there again, but probably not until after Easter now, could look for you if you have not been there in the meantime. You wont find parish registers on film in Bexhill library.

« on: Sunday 26 March 06 18:22 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the history of Sidley, or Sidley Green as it used to be called, in the parish of Bexhill, as History Project Co-ordinator for Sidley Community Association.
Local people can contact me at the Community Centre!
I have information on various Sidley families from censuses and other sources and will be pleased to help with enquiries where I possibly can.
I am also always eager for information about Sidley.

Please post your Queries or Additional Information on the Main Sussex Board under the Heading of 'Sidley Information'

Hello again Megs
For John Cullingworth to have been grandson of William and Mary Lambert and John's brother George to have been nephew of their daughter Elisabeth Whitelaw nee Lambert, I can only think that either (1) their Mother Mary Ann Cullingworth formerly Brown was a daughter of William Lambert's wife by a previous marriage, i.e. to Edward Brown, publican, named as Mary Ann's father on her marriage certificate. Or (2) perhaps Mary Lambert was previously married to John Cullingworth, publican, named as Joseph's father on the marriage certificate!
Do you have details of William and Mary's marriage?

This is Joseph and Mary Ann Cullingworth's family:
Birth: 3 June 1841 Edward Cullingworth at Great Russell Street, St. Giles, Northampton (Edward died 1866)
Birth: 1842 Elizabeth Brown Cullingworth (died 1843)
Birth: 24 Feb 1844 John Cullingworth at Great Russell Street, St. Giles, Northampton. (His age wrongly stated as 8 in the 1851 census. He was in the same household in 1861 when his age was given as 16)
Birth: 6 July 1848 George Cullingworth at Gold Street, All Saints, Northampton
Birth: 4 Dec 1849 Martha Cullingworth at Gold Street, All Saints, Northampton (Martha was with her parents at Gold Street in the 1851 census)
The father, Joseph Cullingworth, died 6 May 1851 at Gold Street.
His widow, Mary, later had another baby again at the same address, Richard Watson Cullingworth on 5 March 1853, no father's name on birth certificate and too late to have been her husband's child! This baby's death was registered in the second quarter of 1853.
I look forward to your thoughts on this!

Many thanks Megs
Yes, George Cullingworth was John's brother. There were other children. I now know that their parents were Joseph Cullingworth and his wife Mary Ann Brown. They married 25 May 1840 at Morcott church, Rutland. Mary Ann Brown was stated to be aged 16 at marriage. She was daughter of Edward Brown, publican.
Joseph Cullingworth died 6 May 1851 at Gold Street, Northampton, aged 36 years, tobacconist. Cause of death Pulmonary Consumption 'many months', which explains why the children were farmed out to relatives. Informant was Ann Stanton, present at death.
I need to review what I have gathered and will post further info asap but didn't want to keep you waiting any longer for a thankyou!

Very many thanks Byron  :)
Did you by any chance note the full reference numbers please? Don't put yourself to any trouble if you didn't! It's not vital!
I want to post details of 1851 households containing Cullingworth folk on my One Name Study website in due course - have already posted all the details that I have been able to gather for years 1861-1901. The format I use is to list them in Piece Number order, but if I can't get such details for the households you have looked at, I'll just add them in at the end!
