Westmeath / Loughlin/Duncan - Mullingar
« on: Saturday 19 July 14 14:34 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could help me find a record of birth or baptism for Mary Loughlin, born 1796 in Mullingar please?
I believe she was Catholic due to the place of her son Bartholomew's baptism in York in 1835.

I also can't find her marriage to Philip Duncan/Dunkin b.1789, he's also from Ireland but doesn't state where on the census returns.

I've recently restarted looking into the family tree after a year or so and am a bit rusty  ::) :) Any help would be greatly appreciated  :)

Thank you  :)

That's not a bad idea Graham! Thank you, I'll look into contacting the regiment's museum. It would be great if they had more details on why he got his medal  :)

Wow Trevor, thank you so much for the information! I've just googled sadleir-jackson brigade and have found an online book about them which I am just about to read  ;D
I wonder if your gt uncle and my grandad's great uncle knew each other?  :)

Thank you so much!  :)
I just searched the London Gazette and found a snippet about why he received his medal. Very interesting indeed.
Thank you again for your help, I really appreciate it  :)

World War One / Military Medals - Leonard Makin

Good Evening,
I have come across a military record for a relative of mine, Leonard Makin b1881,  who seems to have quite a few medals.
I can't quite read them all and I wondered if any one here could read the names and perhaps tell me a little about the medals please?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thank you  :)

Hello David  :)
The reason why the Mohl's left Solingen is apparently down to either religious persecution, or them breaking "the sword makers oath".
Here are a few interesting links, you may have read them already but if you haven't:

If you reply again to this I can then send you a private message with some of my other finds  :)

I have alot of information regarding the Mole/Mohls and I am hoping to view some of the swords they made in a couple of months time!  ;D
If you can do another post I will then be able to private message you some information if you would like?  :)

Hello heywood  :)

Yay! You found her death record? Thank you! I found her christening record on Familysearch and I did previously have her death for 1854, but when I looked again recently I couldn't find her death record anywhere!

I did think the birth you have found was Charles, but when I went back on Martha Lingard's line I found it was a nephew of hers   :-\

William Ruthins...Hmmm... That does sound very possible. In the past my name has been misspelt almost like that  ::)  :)

Thank you for your searching heywood, I really appreciate it!   :)

Hello gaffy,
Thomas was a coal miner, as far as I know he was never in the military but I could be wrong, perhaps he served only for a short while?
I have noticed that there are quite a few of John's siblings who are missing a birth certificate as well. Charles in 1849, Jemima in 1854, William in 1856, Walter in 1867 and Ann in 1869. They all say on the census records that they are born in Walsall but there's no record of it. Maybe the records have been mistranscribed or are missing but I'm really hoping there is an Irish connection!  :)
