Shropshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 - Mary Ann Jordin
« on: Sunday 11 June 06 22:01 BST (UK)  »
Monica,

Thanks for the reply.
It is my mistake, she was living in Shropshire, but I still can't find her immediate parents.  Yes the Ann you found in 1841 is proably the grandmother in 1851, but there is still a generation missing.

It doesn't seem to be the John or William you found as their child Mary was still with them in 1851.

I may have to see if I can find the actual certificate, to solve this one.

Hi,

This sounds like a small problem in the database. There might be one way around it.

But first....

Make sure you have a backup!
Go to the File menu in legacy and select backup family file.
Find somewhere to put the file and give it a name, I usually add the date for future reference, eg legacy_030506

Once this is done, go to the File menu again and select File Maintenance then Check/repair.

This should check the database for errors and with any luck should be able to correct the cause.

Can't promise this will work, but its certainly worth a try.

Technical Help / Re: Infranview
« on: Tuesday 02 May 06 09:27 BST (UK)  »
Springbok,

The dialog you are seeing gives you a chance to specify which types of files will be automatically opened in Irfanview when you click on them in Windows explorer.  You don't have to select anything at this stage, you can do it from the properties dialog later.

There should be a button on the dialog to select just the image types Irfanview supports which is what I usually select. You can always change this later.

Once you have the main program installed, install the plugins. You will need some of these for some of the more obscure formats.

Mayo / Re: Jordin(?) in Castlebar Mayo before 1881
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 18:42 GMT (UK)  »
Thanks for all the help everyone,

I think I had come to the conclusion that the JORDIN's I found in 1881   were a mis-recording, since I couldn't find them after that date. I think I found some JORDAN's that could have been them, but it was difficult to be certain.

There is no other record of JORDIN's from the north west that I have found. It's possible they did eventually migrate to the USA as there are plenty of JORDIN'S there, and I don't seem to have lost any of the other branches of the tree abroad.

Something to  follow up when I get finished with the family in this country.... :)

Thanks for the help,

Adrian

Christopher,

Thanks for the information.

Now I need to figure out whether I can make any connection between these two and the female relative who turns up in Liverpool in 1881.

Cheers,

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1841 - Mary Ann Jordin
« on: Saturday 31 December 05 22:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Could someone check the 1841 census please for Mary Ann Jordin, b 1839, Weston, Shropshire.

I need to find details of her parents, as by 1851 she was living with her gradmother in Staffordshire.

------ New information ---

I don't know if this helps any but having had a look at the original of the 1851 Census, I'm not at all sure the birth place is Weston.  The original definitely gives Shropshire as the county, but the actual place is open to interpretation.

Any feedback at all would be helpful, even if you can't find anything. No replies at all can be dispiriting....

Many thanks,

Adrian

Nicky,

Thanks for the info, this looks a likely bet, shame there isn't any other family around. But its one more piece in the puzzle.

Cheers

Devon / Marriage puzzle - Crotch, Okehampton
« on: Tuesday 06 December 05 22:39 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I don't know if anyone can help with this puzzle...

I have traced a line back to John Crotch and Elizabeth in the late 1700's in Okehampton.

I have found two possible marriages

John Crotch married Elizabeth Rice in 1779 in Okehampton
John Crotch married Elizabeth Chasty in 1784 in Okehampton

So, is this the same John Crotch?
And can anyone help me find the DOB of either John Crotch?

Any help, hints or info would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Adrian
