Family Bibles / Re: Armstrong Family Bible

fyi

This site claims to take the Armstrongs of Terwinney, Fermanagh back to 1480.
This Armstrong family left Kilnockie, Scotland in 1650.
They settled first in Brookborough, Fermanagh, then Terwinney, Ederney in Magheraculmoney.

The ARMSTRONG's were Border Reivers originally.

They were hunted down by James I of England, some were killed and others planted in Ulster.

The freeholder of Fermanagh was the Brooke family and he granted leases to many ARMSTRONG's to collect  his rents and protect his property.

Later came the Scots-Irish mass emigration to the USA.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Deciphering a place name in TYRONE
« on: Thursday 03 May 12 07:40 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if someone can help me decipher the name of the place in the last paragraph on page 2 of this Will.

http://applications.proni.gov.uk/dcal_proni_willscalendar/WillsSearch.aspx

The persons name who left the Will is HENRY CAULFIELD.

It looks to me like it says,

"I give ?devise and bequeath all that portion of the townland of GALAN in the county TYRONE which I purchased in the *** Landed Estates Court "

But I am not sure about the GALAN part as it is a long way from Monaghan where the person lived.

Thank you in advance for any help.

JOHNs father was PATRICK McGUIRK b. 1804.

Maybe PATRICK and your THOMAS were related.

hi,

RE: CHURCH RECORDS

I am not sure if this helps but.........................

My grandmother was ROSALINE McGUIRK from MONAGHAN - she was married in ST. MARYs church in SCOTSTOWN.

She had a brother called OWEN.

My g-g-grandfather was JOHN McGUIRK b. 1843 - he had a son called OWEN b. 1879, so the name is in the family ??

Maybe JOHN was a brother of the person you are looking for ??

hi,

thanks for that, I have that record, plus a record at ELLIS ISLAND for DELIA in 1915.

But nothing else definite for that family!!

The 1911 census record at FEAGH is for my ancestors who were previously in BALLYNAKILLA.

There are only 2 children in the 1911 census as 3 siblings were in New York by then.

The other sibling had married but was not in the census.
---------

There are definitely DELIAs at ELLIS ISLAND.

One is 5'7 with GREY EYES,

The other is 5'6 with BLUE EYES.

One was born 25 DEC 1889, the other was born c. 1892.
