Sussex / Bankside Nursing Home
« on: Sunday 08 May 16 15:29 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have a probate record for my ancestor, Marian Ebden Armstrong, which says she died at Bankside Nursing Home, Wivelsfield, Sussex in 1938.  I've searched, but am not seeming to find a Bankside Nursing Home in Sussex - does anyone know anything about this Home? Has its name changed to something else over the years?

Thank you,
Leeanne

Thank you  :)
The Genuki link is interesting, although it doesn't show any of the spellings I've found in the sources. I'm going with the assumption that all the above are the same place, and spelling has just changed over time, or according to ennumerator's spelling skills

Kilkenny / Clonamery / Clonmorny / Clanmoreney

Hi there,

I have an ancestor, Overington Blunden, listed as living here (I think) in the 1600's.  But I have two different sources, giving me two different spellings of the place name - neither of which I can find when I Google them.  I am trying to ascertain which is the correct spelling, and whether the two places are actually one and the same, or two completely separate places.

Source 1 is the Index to prerogative wills of Ireland, 1536 - 1810 where it states that his will was proved in 1685 : Blunden, Overington; Clanmoreney, Lib. of Kilkenny; gent.

Source 2 is the 1659 Census of Ireland where he appeared as Overington Blunden, gentleman, and the Parish in Clonmorny, Kilkenny, Ireland was listed as "Belonging to St. Kennis Butts".

Now the closest hit I can find on the internet via a quick Google search is Clonamery.  Is this the same place as the above two that I have mentioned?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated?

Kind regards,

Leeanne

Thanks everyone, for the replies  :).  There are no numbers in front of mine so the length will likely remain a mystery.

I was quite interested to read this post, as I have also just received a death notice that states the cause of death as Senile Decay, however below that it says "years certified" - does anyone know what that refers to?  The place of death is the home address of my ancestor, so I assume it doesn't mean he was placed in a home or asylum or some such place.

Hi grizzly1,

I'd be quite interested in seeing the pic - is it on a website somewhere or is it one that you took yourself?

That they were married in the Transvaal, South Africa, is all I know about their marriage.  He immigrated here (SA) at some point, and he worked as a Catholic Priest for some time, then eventually became a homeopath.  We used to visit with them so often when I was little, but both him and my great-aunt have since passed away, and naturally I only became interested in genealogy long after they had gone.  None of the people who would have the info I'm looking for are alive anymore.  I have actually requested the family search document from our local LDS branch and am still waiting for that, thank you very much for checking for me though, I do appreciate it  :)

Clare / Hassett : Kilrush 1913
« on: Monday 20 May 13 12:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I wonder if anyone could help?  My great-aunt married one James Paul Flannan Hassett who was born in Kilrush in 1913.  I have been trying to find birth/baptism information for him with no success.  It seems that either there are very few records for Kilrush online, or maybe I am just looking in the wrong places?

I have no other information for him other than what I have mentioned above, and then as far as I know he was Roman Catholic.

Would anyone perhaps know where (other than FamilySearch, Ancestry and the County Clare Library) I could try looking for parish records, or would anyone be able to do a lookup for me?  I have tried contacting St. Sennans Parish, but have yet to receive a reply from them.
